Thanks for the picture AIW. I find a lot of bus terminals seemt o have the art moderne/deco look to them. They are quite a gem. |

Speaking of Greyhound, any word on what the new Windsor transit facility will look like? Maybe Matty could donate to Windsor the greyhound from the side of the old Fort station.... |

Used to walk a beat on Fort Street from 14th to W. Grand Blvd....hell, over 40 years ago. It was a miserable beat; nothing open after 4 p.m. But that building held a driver's lounge in the back, and the door was always open for the beat man there along with a hot pot of coffee. Used to shoot the shit with the drivers, and in later years, I can guarantee you a Greyhound driver never got a ticket from me. |

I wonder what they're asking? 1.6m? (2xSEV) that seems reasonable if the mechanicals are there and somewhat working. |

I don't suppose there's much beat walking any more. It was a great job for getting into shape, I'll tell you. Walking the alleys on the midnight shift was always a trip, 'cept that it could be a bit boring in winter. |

UpinOttawa, The transit centre will be designed to look like the surrounding area (IE: an older look to it)so that it can be incorporated into "urban village". No design details have been released to the public as of yet. But talking with city hall it is supposed to be rather pleasing to the eye. |

Goat, that's the opposite of what I've heard. The plans are long done, and there is no consideration to anything. It will be spartan and utilitarian, with a very small waiting room, no Greyhound office (Transit Windsor will sell Greyhound tickets). It will essentially be one long bus bay. The plans have been done for about a year, it's just a matter of finaces at this point. I doubt your eye will be pleased. |

I wonder if that Greyhound sign is for sale, or if is might just happen to accidentally fall off? The building looks like some late 40s-early 50's designs of some bowling alleys, or car dealerships on the edges of the city and the inner-ring burbs that I remember. That same curved wall in yellow brick. |

Is the dog painted on or is it a removeable sign? It looks to be in great shape. |

You are correct AIW. It will be quite small with only a couple of bays, but as I stated the design is to be incorporated into the urban village. I would imagine it wouldn't be just a shoe box or some boring design but I doubt it will be ornate either. |

I'm guessing you'll be dissapointed when they build the shoe box. |

How many bays? Greyhound will need two or three (one for coaches headed to Toronto and one for coaches headed to Detroit, and possibly another bay for overflow/busy times when they send one bus to Toronto and another only as far as London). Several Transit Windsor buses use the current terminal including the Tunnel/Comerica/Ford/JLA/Speci al events buses that tend to require an area for buses and passengers to queue. I think it is safe to assume that the tunnel bound buses will be served out of the transit station and that it is fairly safe to assume the current Windsor bound routes that use the present station will use the new one. Let's hope they don't totally cheap out on the new station because it will be around for a long time. Now if only they would build an underground pedestrian tunnel with moving walkways connecting the new transit station to a new Via station near the train tunnel that will handle international trains! |

I'm not sure of the specifics. I sit on the Windsor Heritage Commitee, and last year we were asked to provide a member to sit down with the transit group to discuss possibly incorprating the facade of the Dominion Bank Building that is in storage, into the new terminal. When our representative arrived, they were told it wouldn't fit. The new station would only be one story, and that the plans were already drawn up. I belive with the lack of Greyhound offices coming after the plans had been drawn up, they have since been revised to reflect a smaller indoor area. I'm guessing it will look cheap and tacky like most things built in this city. |

Andrew is being much too cynical. Canada spends a lot of CDs on public infrastruture. As for bus system, Canadians love to huddle in little clusters like smiling peasants on the bus. Ornate is for bankers, functional is for the Canadian socialist hoardes. jjaba, watching that huddle at Comerica Park after the game. |

It's funny that Detroit's most effective transit line originates from, is operated by, and is used primarily by, Windsor (and Windsorites). Upinottawa, getting into that huddle at Comerica Park hoping to avoid having to stand on the southbound trip. |
