Eph McNally’s Deli, a Corktown institution, will be opening a second location downtown this summer. Costumers should expect the same quality sandwiches, soups, salads and bread pudding in the new spot as at the original location; furthermore, nothing will change at the original location. Co-owner Tom Arndt states, “We’re leaving it exactly the same as it is now.”

Eph’s Downtown will be located at 608 Woodward, just north of Congress and the under-redevelopment Vinton Building. Arndt explains the motivation to expand their sandwich empire as, “the beautiful renovation of Campus Martius Park.” The dining room will seat 70; July 1 is the targeted opening date

Wow, a July 1 opening seems pretty ambitious. I love their food though, and cant wait until it is literally right out the doorstep of my office.

Not really, 608 was a resturant previously and work has been happening for a while now.

I just hope the waitstaff is as surley as the original location.

I can't wait to go in and sit by myself at a table for four, thereby incurring the wrath of all who toil within said establishment....will they have tap water?

So whats up with Foran's Pub just to the north (or west, whatever it is)? I thought I saw somewhere that the place is for sale, and during SBXL, the place was just trashed (not sure if it was from overuse that weekend or that's its typical condition lately).

Foran's, although narrow, could be such a great spot. The high, barrel-roofed ceilings are dramatic, and if the place was done up right, could be a really terrific pub.

I always liked this place, and now I will be able to go there on a regular basis. Good news...

I'm glad to hear about the opening, but I hope that Eph's will continue the great historical Downtown tradition of maintaining proper business hours.

I expect them to open at 10 AM and close at 4:30; not a minute past. God forbid anyone to come home from work, change clothes and grab a bite to eat at a CBD restaurant!

Personally, my desire is to have as many non-options as possible when it comes to feeding my face in Downtown Detroit past five o'clock.

If Eph's maintains all that makes their Corktown location great, but honors Downtown's rich traditions (like respectful Jimmy John's and Starbuck's) then they will thrive and prosper.

Just bein' serious.

As a partner on the venture, I can assure you that we will begin with the exact same Eph's and expand hours/selections as the financial and human capital allow. But we do plan to take advantage of the obvious lunch business to pay the bills before we risk staying open for our fellow central city residents. It really isn't a conspiracy as much as supply meeting demand.

No, but if you drop your drawers, there'll be a free sausage.
