These and many more other folks are deserving.

I think it's great that these folks got some recognition. But there are countless more that go on daily without any recognition as well. I think about all of the loyal cops, firefighters, and EMTs that put their lives on the line for us every day as a prime example.

Again there are plenty more. I almost wish that they could publish a daily profile or a deed of some of the other good people in the area.

Chauncey Billips is the Big Shot.
He deserves some recognition for his charity and success with the Pistons.

. . . In the same spirit, Lowell Boilleau deserves recognition for uniting disparate voices in generally positive (hey, work with me here) town square-style discussions of metropolitan Detroit's assets, accomplishments, opportunities, potential, memories and events.

His increasingly popular meeting place also is an e-gallery of images, connections, classifieds and virtual tours. All that and no ads, no fee, no 'tip jar' PayPal donation shilling.

And oh yeah: He's so modest that it's a good thing you read this post before our administrator-in-chief takes it down.

Al Gancy who sits on the board of DTE Energy and voted to downsize 1245 employees. And voted for great big compensation packages to the management of DTE Energy.
Yeah, a real model Michiganians.

Roger Penske certainly deserves it; he is one man who certainly has become a difference maker around here. Can't say I'm too familiar with most of the others though.

Typical butt kiss PC list.

99.9% of the people living in this area wouldn't know any of these people (except Porcher and maybe Penske) if they knocked on their front door right now.

Off the top of your head who has done the most for Detroit in the last year?

1. Penske
2. Any investigative news reporter (Lewis, Wilson, Elrick, Wolcheck)
3. Karmanos

You could come up with many lists of deserving folks, but the problem is that any such list excludes other deserving folks. Space limitations suck.

That said, I'm always happy when a guy like Richard Bernstein gets recognition. It's a little easier being disabled when a talented, dedicated person like him is willing to fight for you. And he'll always get props from me because of his support for "my" group, the Miracle League of Michigan.

Just because so many of these people do things behind the scenes don't mean they don't deserve some recognition. But then if this list is about recognition first as opposed to acomplishments, then we'd best start putting celebrities on first.

To me it's not a competition because there are MANY people that deserve accolades for the work they do on a regular basis.

Eastsidedog,

Uh, ya it is. If it wasn't it wouldn't be in the paper and we wouldn't have to hear about it.
