Early yesterday morning Mon.5/15 about 5:10 am a Detroit Police squad car crashed into a telephone pole on Oakman near Woodrow Wilson. The pole came to rest atop the squad car, the area lost electrical power for about 10 minutes and the area was blocked off all day as fire, ambulance, edison, tow trucks etc. cleared the scene. I saw no report of this in the Free Press today. What caused the accident? Was it a chase or slippery conditions? They must have been going pretty fast to sever the telephone pole. I'm just wondering why and why there was no mention of this in the papers. Anyone know? |

Damned illegals, they don't belong on the roads before sun-up. Even the cops aren't safe. |

I'm sure they were both wearing their seatbelts like EVERY other officer I see in a patrol car in Detroit. |

If it wasn't in the Free Press it must not have happened. |

That's exactly what I thought when I read it. It's funny what gets people's attention and what doesn't. As I read the story I pictured some civilian trying to pass off on the cops the same story that they are telling. The cops would laugh in their face, as they wrote their ticket. A very small article with little information. Anyone know if there has been a follow up story? I will look a little later and see what I find. |

Thanks for the link Compn. Glad that got cleared right up by an eye witness. The ghost car was not seen, go figure. Still no answer of seatbelts. I have to say its one of my biggest pet peaves is that the police get to drive around without them, and then I assume, they collect for their time off and injuries once they get into an accident. Just my two cents... |

As I was once told by a DPD officer, and I quote, "We the POlice! We can do what we want!" This was in responce to my question about why I NEVER see DPD squad cars stop at RED lights... |
