Seeing as how the founder of Bavarian Inn just passed...

I'll always remember those weekends of leaving our happy home and heading up north to get the chicken at this place. Somehow it was more than just a meal- it was nearly an event/ holiday. It wasn't as far as a Chicago or a Toronto but it was still a trek to Frankenmuth. I guess as a young lad, it just seemed farther than what it really was but I do have fond memories.

The most amusing and misleading fact about Frankenmuth; no matter how hard you look in the heart of Bavaria, you'll never find chicken! Seems as though it's a German-American tradition. Not quite as available in Germany. :|

I remember when going to Frankenmuth was a special event. People wore their Sunday best, and would sometimes have to wait in two hour lines down the street just to get seated.

On a recent visit this Winter Zender's was basically empty. Our waiter actually told us that "Tiffany's" was a far better deal for a meal. Pretty sad when the help is admitting that. I still enjoy the dinner though. I have a hard time walking down the street after eating there. Like that Frankenmuth Dark beer too.

The funniest thing in town is still the benches in front of Bronner's. They are always filled with old guys bored out of their minds as their wives spend the cash on Christmas crap in July.

Their Ocktoberfest is always jumping! I love walking up and down the street and having chicken dinner and the beer!

How right you are Publicmsu! Chicken is not a German specialty.... Pork and Beef are the mainstay of German cuisine, especially pork.

Breaded pork cutlets (similar to pork chops) known as "Schweine Schnitzel" is probably the most common German delicacy. "Wiener Schnitzel" is the veal equivalent.

Frankenmuth is actually quite busy these days around the summer. They are currently building two new hotels, and just finished adding more rooms to another.

I have always found Frankenmuth chicken very overrated, but the beer at the Frankenmuth Brewery is wonderful. Also I loved going to Bronner's on Lions game days because they have a TV in the lobby with seats set up for the bored husbands to sit in and watch the game.

Ironically, one of Bavarian Inn founders died.

Ummm, Bob, I think you need to check the first 2 lines of Smogboy's post. But thanks for the reminder.

I've always liked Frankenmuth. Doesn't matter if I eat at the Bavarian Inn or Zehnders; for me it's all about those highly addictive buttered noodles rather than the chicken. Just keep those bowls of noodles coming!

Those wonderful buttered noodles are known as Spätzle.... Yummy! In Bavaria they make another variety known as Käse-Spätzle, or cheese noodles (they use a white cheese and don't drown them in cheese like Macaroni & Cheese).

I proposed to my wife in Frankenmuth. It seemed like a decent romantic type destination that fall for a proposal. Afterward, I realized it was probably dumb to propose to a Jewish woman in a German town. Oh well.

LOL, Spacemonkey. Good chuckle.

Last time I was there I wasn't hungry at all, but the wife insisted. So she ordered the usual chicken dinner and I decided to just order a hamburger.

Big mistake. Worst hamburger in recorded history.

I could just hear the cook. "Hamboiger? Hamboiger? He wants a lousy Hamboiger? I'll give him a Hamboiger he'll never forget....."
