An intriguing new personality is scheduled to join the four Detroit-area political leaders who will gather on a Mackinac Island stage this morning to talk about the region's uncertain future.

Introducing Eddie Francis, mayor of Windsor.

It's about time. We could conceivably pick up more tourism dollars if we capitalized on our relationship with Windsor. I think MI currently ranks #9 in the country (with metro-D reeping about 1/3 of those dollars). Good move.

Reviewing his bio on Wikipedia, it appears that Mayor Francis comes to the table with some really impressive credentials. He appears to be a real dynamo. Sounds like Windsor voters have made a smart choice.

Absolutely about time. The world's largest international metropolis key to Detroit's and Michigan's and Ontario's future. The more we can do to tighten that $66 billion dollar relationship, the better we will all do. A true win - win situation.

Eddie Francis is brilliant and energetic.

This is smart. True regionalism will involve Windsor-Essex.

An aside: the Freep should get a higher res. scanner....

Wow...from the sounds of it, Detroit could eventually become the little brother to Windsor if expansion projections hold true!

I doubt if that'll happen but it's still nice to see that the Mayor of Windsor gets invited to this event. Like he said, we're all in this together. Why not coordinate efforts to use the strengths of our region? I'd like to think of Detroit more as a region at times than just a city unto itself.
