Race Matters was a brilliant book. Wish I had time to go to Borders today. It'd be an honor to meet Cornel West. |

When Thomas Sowell comes to Detroit to do a book signing is when I will go to see an author. The other two whose names I won't repeat pander to victimization. Livedog2 |

Hey, I'll Pander! Tavis Smiley and Cornell West! Wish I was there to see them. They are both intelligent and insightful authors and personalities. Tavis is one of my favorites. I never miss his weekly radio show. If you listened, you'd see that he's about as far from being a victim as you can get. I've never heard of that other guy, but a google search didn't excite me. Same old conservative drivel you can read anywhere. That's fine for those who need that sort of thing, but I prefer to use my brain. |

The Friends of The Detroit Public Library brought Dr. West in last year to speak. There was a standing-room only crowd. |

Jjaba: Cornel West was born in Tulsa and grew up in Oklahoma, Kansas, and California. Degrees from Harvard and Princeton. The author and speaker has taught at Yale, Union Theological Seminary and Princeton. Tavis Smiley grew up near Kokomo, Indiana and went to Indiana University. Had some early involvement in Los Angeles politics and then became a broadcaster and author. Still based out of Los Angeles. Thomas Sowell was born in North Carolina and grew up in Harlem in NYC. The economist-writer-columnist went to Harvard, Columbia University, and the University of Chicago. He's had professorships at Cornell, Rutgers, Amherst College, Brandeis U., UCLA, and Stanford. So... no, no real Detroit ties. (Message edited by Fury13 on June 16, 2006) |
