Who plan this 21st Century look alike Downtown? So far it didn't pass Detroit City Council approval.

I'm a little surprised by this sentence:

"The remaining part of area A would be a gay and colorful grouping of low structures comprising foreign shops, restaurants, stores and an international information center. Only pedestrian traffic would be permitted within this area."

If this had come to pass, what would have happened at 6 mile/Woodward?

The plan was proposed in 1959. I'm sure Council will get to it.

I find it interesting that a sea of parking lots were incorporated into this particular plan. It really is amazing how our ideas of urban design have changed over the years because these developments are quite suburban in nature and if they had every been built it would have set downtown back even further.

Amazing, given all the foreign cars on the road today. Compare the land size here to the GM Tech. Ctr., Ford research centers, and Chryslers out in Yeminsville.

As we know today, say compared to Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Las Vegas etc., you need much more land for a first class convention center operation than was allocated for Detroit.

The absence of any mass transit doomed this plan from the start also.
