I'm new to this site but just wanted someone to know that I recently visited downtown Detroit for a Red Wings game. I'm from Grand Rapids and hadn't been to downtown Detroit in many years. I'm sure no one will be surprised to hear that my last visit was depressing and left me with no great desire to return. However, before the game I took the family to the Hockeytown Cafe (where we parked) and we took the People Mover to the game and back. I must say my expectations were that it would be unsafe and probably filthy. We (me, my wife and two boys) were all very pleasantly surprised. The People Mover was clean and afforded us a view of a revitalized downtown. We were thrilled to see all the investment and new life downtown (it wasn’t like that at all during our last visit). We realize there is much more work to be done but having lived in Downtown Chicago for many years before moving to Grand Rapids, my wife and I love big cities with lots of life in the city center. Congratulations to all who are working hard to help bring Detroit back! (We’ll be back soon…..) |

Jbraun, Welcome to the Detroit Yes Forum. It warms my heart when families visit our city and enjoy themselves. Detroit is not perfect but it is rebounding after years of neglect and financial hardship. Come back and bring your friends. Jbraun, Welcome as well. I too am from west Michigan(Kazoo area) and as a non Michigan native who's never fully understood Detroit's rise and fall has been captivated by this city. Thanks to Lowell, this site, and many subsequent visits to the D, I feel like I've now known Detroit for all my life. Get the word out to west Michigan, like I am doing down here on the gulf coast, Detroit is gonna rise again! D |

Detroitplanner started it with welcoming Jbraun to DYes with "Witamy!"!!!! (And I had to give up on trying to code the accent marks that should have been on the c and last s of szczesliwego.) Oh, and I forgot to extend my personal welcome to you Jbraun. I hope you enjoy this site as much as I do! |

Yeah my cousins also came to detroit over Christmas week and they said how much has improved in 2 years. I showed them the riverfront and the new casino projects,Greektown, and the Ren Cen Wintergarden. They also said how much nicer the Science center is than what it was a couple of years ago. They even wrote a check to http://www.detroitriverfront.o rg/ last they really liked the People Mover and how it goes by the River and how you really get to see the improvements going on like the Book- Cadillac. |
