I'm finally noticing work on the Crystal lofts for both phase 1 and 2. They have been hauling crap out of there for the last few days, and site for phase 2 has been primed. Phase 2 is supposed to be a 175 unit structure directly to the north of the Crystal ballroom. Here's an old article about the development.

This is going to be a sweet development when completed.

Looks like a nice development. I think these projects are great. They are affordable for middle class buyers and will help revive the area.

Does anyone have an specifics on the 175 unit aspect of the project? Meaning how tall will the building be, what are they doing about parking?

Only a little behind schedule.

Looks great and I am glad to see these developments move forward even in this economy.

But, all these developments have first floor retail, which isn't a bad idea. But, does anyone else feel concerned about how they are not filling up?

Phase 2 isn't being built. You don't build a 175 unit building without releasing a rendering and marketing the property.

Phase 2? You mean the King David Lodge? That sign has been up for 10 years.

My bad if they're not actually starting the 2nd phase yet, but there's been a lot of work done on that particular site.

It is completely irresponsible reporting of Model D to actually even mention the "second phase" on that block.

I cannot understand why they would include that in an otherwise very positive story.

Way to cloud the message.

Im not concerned. Chicken or the egg? Retail needs residents and with all these developments in Brush and inbetween downtown and New Center we are growing are residential base. Retail will always be a bit behind but it will be coming. Its positive that these places are being designed to incorporate ground floor retail.

It is good to see a reputable company (Monohan Co.) take over the construction of this project, it is good to see actual work begin. Unfortunately the company that previously was the construction manager (Banner Const.) is also in charge of the @water lofts, hopefully they can come thru with a finished project!

Could it be that Model D Media is a shameless shill for the development community, reprinting press releases without doing actual critical reporting?

Dubious in Ottawa.

Am I missing something? As I read it, the ModelD story says that the project is comprised of two phases and explains what each phase will entail. I'm guessing that the article didn't say "phase 1 will be built first, then phase 2 later on," simply because, by definition, any project done in phases means that it will be built... in phases. If both parts were done simultaneously, there'd be no phase 2 at all, just one big phase.
