Nope. I know for a fact that there are PR people for the company that peruse this forum on a daily basis. |

Ehh, Kid Dynamite, I think the rumors that circulate QL are just as good as the rumors that circulate here. It's not like the handful of people involved in it are leaking information to their thousands of employees. They're rumors like any other. |

But the new announcement is great though. Very exciting. We thought it was one site or the other, but he wants to do both! And is supposed to be responsible for at least one. |

Detroit 2.0? Think maybe Detroit 4.0-- In any case, this is some great news! So glad it is finally being announced. A big plus for downtown and the metro Detroit region. Congrats! |

Spin off businesses opening downtown to meet the need of the additional 4,000 workers downtown? New loft sales for a small percentage of the workers who'd like to live downtown? Incentive to companies from out of state to look at/move to the region? |

IhearttheD - we need to start a separate thread for mass transit, and once it breaks 1000 posts, it will come true. And a Broderick thread too, while we're at it. |

Mikeg: tax exemptions, not subsidies. That is a legitimate form of incentive put to good use here, in order to put employees and a corporation in a place where they can do much more good. This will increase downtown retail, and increase the attractiveness of the region by strengthening the central city. The potential for economic growth, and the likelihood of strongly positive externalities, make incentives a worthwhile thing here. Don't forget the new revenue stream (City income tax) which will counterbalance the incentive if we are looking from a strictly budgetary standpoint. |

"but maybe in 2028 once the $200 million in subsidies expire." Exactly. Just knowing the subsidies will expire in twenty years will help the region. Psychologically, it is a relief to know there will be larger rewards down the road. It is something to look forward to, as opposed to wondering what the hell is going to happen next. |

No, I don't think so. "Thejesus Member Username: Thejesus Post Number: 2354 Registered: 06-2006 Posted on Tuesday, October 09, 2007 - 12:38 pm: ------------------------------ ------------------------------ -------------------- Well, Apbest, you see, there are only 2 possibilities...it's either Quicken is in the best shape it's ever been in, or it's going bankrupt...there is no in between...there is simply no possibility that Quicken has been doing great for years, and is now simply seeing a mild slowdown due to some of the problems plaguing the mortgage industry... You see, the only possibilities are either: 1) They are doing great, in which case they will build an 80-story glass tower on the Statler site; and save Detroit and SE MI; or 2) The are doing horrible, in which they are going out of business and all of SE MI will be burned to the ground as a result " |

"Please, start naming them." The problem is just with the way you phrased your statement For one the city was already conducting (and still is) a study to get federal funding for a transit system, probably light rail... Quicken might want the state to get more serious about transit, but the city and state can't commit federal funding to an agreement with Quicken, and a transit system won't get built w/o federal funds... So it's silly to think the move would be contingent upon a mass transit system... That aside, there are a number of reasons that moving downtown would be beneficial to Quicken, and while one of terms that Gilbert may have wanted was to get commitments from the state to focus more on transit, it's highly unlikely he would have walked away from the whole deal if he couldn't get those commitments as you are suggesting he would have |

Rjlj: I'm not sure what the point you're trying to make is...that was a sarcastic post making fun of the out of hand extreme attitudes of forum members regarding this quicken thing...many said Quicken was going out of business, and many said it was in the best shape it's even been in and that they will build an 80-story glass tower my point was that they are all crazy thinking it has to be one extreme or the other I'm unable tell from your posts if you realize this or not. Who on here said that Quicken would be bankrupt in 6 months? I'm surprised at anyone who's surprised by this. Aren't you all just really happy that Qwiggen will now be available to support your drag needs? (Message edited by quinn on November 13, 2007) |

IHD: There's a difference between Gilbert seeking commitments from the state to focus on transit and the move being contingent on a transit system... Not only is a focus on transit not the same as an actual transit system, but seeking a commitment to do something in exchange for something else is quite different from walking away from the table if a condition is not met. Foot, meet ass. |
