That bus terminal lot will be for DDOT, SMART and Windsor Tunnel buses as well. It will be called the Rosa Parks Transit Center. - E.WarrenAve |

Ewarrenave "that bus terminal lot will be for DDOT, SMART and Windsor Tunnel buses as well" True, but the terminal is for DDot, all other bus services will stop nearby or at the curb....The terminal is strictly for DDOT buses to park/load only. That being said I can still wait for a smart bus or tunnel bus at the station...I really hope they will announce those buses or place GPS systems that tell you where the bus is like they claim they will do for DDOT. Speaking of DDOT....has anyone heard anything about the study for improveing capitol park? |

Those pictures are excellent! In quality (resolution) and scope, they are the best collection of B-C construction photos I've seen. (Message edited by Burnsie on July 01, 2007) |

Gthomas...If you are talking about the parcel I believe you are, it will be a 3 story addition as the historic hotel had that will house fitness activities and meeting space or something. It can be seen at the bottom left of the rendering on this site http://www.westinbookcadillacr esidences.com/ |

Apbest-- the building that used to be on that site wasn't an addition to the hotel. It was Detroit Edison's old Station A, later their HQ, and torn down sometime in the '70s. Henry Ford once worked there as an engineer. There was a nice thread about that building some time ago. |

You have go to be kidding me. Maybe when they were taking down the People's Outfitting Bldg. there was some excessive dust. I am not sure what these neighbors expect. Are the workers supposed to wipe the whole building down with Pledge at the end of each day? Personally, I think the work area has been kept quite clean. If the CC allows this type of complaint to significantly delay this project, you can kiss outside investment money right down the drain. |

No, but I do walk by on a regular basis. I do not see excessive amounts of dust. Sorry, I understand living next to construction does suck. Living next to a major abandoned building sucks worse. It is a major building renovation with an adjacent demolition site. It probably gets a little dirty from time to time. I did notice a lot of noise when they were taking down People's. Maybe these neighbors can derail the project over noise if the dust thing doesn't fly. |

I suggest they close their windows and be thankful this renovation is taking place in their backyard. |

Yeah. I think that most ppl are willing to put up with a road being under construction for a year in order to alleviate traffic. Similarly, the local residents shouldn't be so quick to complain as their home values will clearly go up and there will be much benefit in the long run. |

I can't make the hearing; I'm working in a very clean operating room right now. I do have a lot of surgical masks I could pass out to the BC neighbors, though. |

Interesting precedent could be set for the city, basically any major project will be scuttled if any people live in any proximity to any site... Leave it to the D to set a precedent like this. This sort of activity goes on consistently in any major city in the country, there must be some legal precedent here. I am surprised no one complained when Hudsons was imploded back in the late 90s. There was a major dust cloud that covered the downtown with thousands of people watching it. |

Riji, you are kidding right? If the C.C. gets in the way of progress....... well that's is bad for Detroit. I'm not saying screw the complaining residents, but all the C.C. should have to tell them is get used to the BOOMING DOWNTOWN ECONOMY! <313> |

This is not an issue of getting in the way of progress; it is an issue of following the rules so as not to have issues related to the progress such as minimizing dust and not affecting residents in the area. ?Comprende? For people to speak up on the issue who do not even live near the site is absurd. Also, a lot of downtown residents complained about the dust cloud from the Hudson's massacre. |

Funny, I didn't see where the Holiday Inn Express management, staff or patrons felt the overwhelming need to take alleged dust complaints to the CC. Maybe that's because the Holiday Inn Express realizes the temporary inconvenience of this renovation project will be dramatically offset by a vibrant Westin Book Cadillac and Griswold development. |

If I'm management at Holiday Inn Express, I gladly put up with the construction inconvenience @ the BC. The BC will rejuvenate the corner of Michigan and Washington. The HIE will absolutely benefit from the increased prestige and activity the BC will bring to this area of Downtown. Maybe the poor and elderly residents who brought this complaint to CC are not so happy to see a rejuvenated Michigan Ave/Washington Blvd. This development will likely lead to rent increases and advancing gentrification. They probably foresee a displacement in their future and they may be resentful. Resentful people are more likely to find fault with such a project. |
