I wonder how long it would take nature to completely reclaim Detroit? It's half way there now.

I really hope they don't add the doubletree or hilton name to it...It would be a shame for them to spread there logo feces all over such a great old hotel. I say they keep on the front the Fort Shelby name....but have it when you call the place that it's the Fort Shelby Double Tree Hotel. I think the Hilton name has taken quite a beating lately from the heiress whore daughter paris. I have seen work being done on the other side of the buildings...Ive seen window frames taken out and looks like more construction lighting has been put in.

It will have the Doubletree name on it.

When you invest the money, they can call it the Civilprotectionunit4346 Fort Shelby Hotel

It was just a thought....Speaking of hotel's...has anyone ever seen or been in the hotel Yorba? A friend of mine went there just out of curiousity to see the inside of the place. From what he told me it smelled like the inside of a bathroom.

Civilprotection, if that's what your bathroom smells like, it's time to hire a housekeeper cause what you're doing isn't working.

No that's what the Hotel Yorba smells like....from what my friend told me. And please let's keep this kind of at an adult level and stop trying to start an argument. And now back to the topic. I forgot to mention I saw a back hoe by the parking lot on the one side of the building. Also A few weeks back I saw a truck with a flat bed trailer with some equipment on it, I wonder what it could have been.

I think we need to shorten civilprotectionunit4346 to CPU4346.

What do you think?

Thats insane.... Overpriced yuppie coffee! I like the little coffee shops. I really am not a fan of starbucks & caribou coffee shops. From what ive heard about the development of the building, it sounds like it's going to be hotel rooms and apt's as well. I wonder if they are going to re-do the ball-room in the Fort Shelby like they did the Book-Cadillac.

They have cut large, gaping holes in the back of the hotel (the side facing Fort) for, I presume, demo work.

Anything new on progress with the Pick Fort Shelby? I wonder if the Barclays group (the ones that bought out Hilton) will continue with the project or will they "evaluate" it? I hope it's still a done deal.

They're working. Not anything that's visible on the outside (in terms of progress), but the dumpsters and chutes are visible.

Thanks for the update, Scsl00. I heard that the hotel was once a popular place for Union Station passengers and the boats that docked nearby. Of course when the station was torn down and the boats stopped coming, the traffic fell off considerably.

In the third pic Kenp posted, notice the portion of the facade that looks like an old auto plant exterior, with the classic exposed reinforced concrete frame. That's pretty neat-- that part looks like a factory, but is a hotel.

The workers are tossing chunks of what looks like plaster out windows in the front, creating clouds of gray-white particles when the chunks hit the sidewalk ...that are floating toward Channel 4, across the street.

Speaking of asbestos and face masks ...
