Great photos, Southern. Can I get a few one-way tickets for the portal?
I work with a few people who are in dire need of a get-a-way. Permanently!

Just to follow up, they DID get back to me. Sounds like they'll be printing the photograph approx 5'x10' and paying a hefty sum. I wish I could go to Munich to check it out! I don't really have the means but I'd love to see the photo blown up that big:

OK I've been lurking around here enjoying the pictures long enough, time to post some from my collection.
With AT&T donating its Calder to the DIA I thought a few pictures of its original location would be interesting.
The first two are from the early 20's

This one is from early 1971, the "Lady" was placed on the corner in 1972.

Newportnic, In your third pic you can see the Detroit Times Building, which is now a parking lot. What a beautiful building that was.

Hans, Yes the Times building was very nice. It's hard to understand why it was torn down as it was occupied up until about a year before demolition. But then there were fewer parking structures... the city had not built the "rusty bucket" on Bagely and the phone company didn't have it's structure up but Edison was buying everything between First St and Lodge & Bagely and Fisher.

Did you also notice that in the first picture the lot behind the Lindell AC was under construction, but 50 years later it was also a parking lot?

Cheers Gsgeorge! Sweet deal man. Connections over the internet sure can create opportunities. "...and paying a hefty sum. I wish I could go to Munich to check it out!" Apparently not that hefty of a sum to get you to Munich, LOL.

For those interested Exposure.Detroit, a local photography group, is having a showing tonite at the Bean & Leaf Cafe on Mainstreet in Royal Oak. The photographers are all relatively unknown locals and many of the photos are of the city.

Here's a flyer with more information...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/s outhen/1831197336/

and heres the group on flickr...
http://flickr.com/groups/expos uredetroit/

The group was recently featured in the Freep. There are a lot of talented people involved so if you dont have anything happening swing on by and take a look at some great artwork.

Anybody make it out to the show? It was a great turnout and the photos will be there for the next month so you can still check it out.

Hey Southen I just joined the group. How do groups work on flickr? Are all of my photo's available to the group, or do I get to pick which ones are on the group page?

Every once in a while luck has me taking a fairly decent photograph, and I start to think that I am a photographer. Then I see works like Southen's and I realize I am a dud. :-)

Andy... If a flickr member views your photo stream they can see all your photos but within the group they can only see photos you submit. If you go to your photo there is a button on the top that says 'send to group' and then a drop down menu appears and you can choose which group to submit to.

Ray... I appreciate that but it really is all a process. If you keep at it you will get good I know this because a few years back when i got interested the pictures I was taking werent the best, but i stuck with it, bought some books and now im really enjoying it and getting great feedback.
