I work in Cadillac Tower, & when I saw the renderings, I was shocked. Speechless. And no, I don’t particularly like it, but who cares? Anyway, I’ve always thought of the Cadillac Tower as someone’s prim & proper old Uncle Whomever. A tall, thin fellow you like having around. Always dressed very neatly, in an old (but pressed & clean) suit & bowtie. Given that imagery, I view this as putting old Uncle Whomever on the arm of a fashion model at the latest show in Paris. God Bless old Uncle Whomever – imagine his wide smile! But boy, it sure looks odd. |

One thing that has interested me about this rendering is the "DOT MART" that is shown facing Campus Martius Park.
To me, "DOT MART" implies only one thing:

"Before you start sending complaints that I curse to the main people who run this forum, take a step back and look at yourselves and see it from my perspective." CPU..I highly doubt anyone gives a fat crap about your perspective. Probably nobody alive. Your history on this forum is always the same; First you post a few absurd and baseless comments, devoid of any logic. Then you take a barrage of posts firing back at you in which you prove completely defenseless against. You go away for a little while after that, and return a month or two later and repeat. I happen to really enjoy your ramblings. You might be the most entertaining individual on DYES. Keep up the good work!! (Message edited by kid dynamite on January 10, 2008) |

While I wouldn't gripe about a Target, I would certainly hope they could do better than that. But, if it were a SuperTarget, I would actually welcome that with open arms. But that's getting ahead of things a bit. Anyway, link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_Corporation#SuperTarget (Message edited by gotdetroit on January 10, 2008) |

A Target wouldn't surprise me. They have a number of "downtown" stores in the country. This would also provide a great PR opportunity since they used to be the Dayton-Hudson Corporation and the Hudson's Block is only two blocks north. From Wikipedia: Urban stores While many Target stores share a fairly common big-box store layout, the company has been known to be flexible with its designs. Target operates unique stores across the country in urban locations or within a mall where a standard one story building would not be feasible. These stores encompass multiple floors with both sales floor area and off stage areas such as offices or storage rooms spanning a number of these floors. Vertical transportation is provided in the store by escalator, elevator, or Vermaport, a specialized escalator for carts. Target currently operates 34 multi-level stores. Target has used their urban store concept to open multiple story stores in city centers such as in Brooklyn, New York City and Minneapolis, within the corporation's headquarters complex. Building stores in these environments carries an elevated cost which is offset by the high potential for business that these stores can bring in. The Target store located on Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis features a three-story glass entrance and a design that sets it apart from suburban Target stores. This urban store alone cost Target Corporation 16.3 million USD.[43] This concept has also been used to convert Target stores from former Montgomery Ward and Younkers stores.[44] |

Just what we need more cheap chinese product selling stores. Now all they need to do is add a Walmart and it will complete the image. Well at least im looking to move outta here. With no change in the current economic & employment situation here in the state, no wonder so many people are flocking to leave the state. Say what you might about jobs coming into the area. Most of them are a small drop in the bucket. I guess I proved myself correct most everyone who posts here has their head up a certain area. Say what you want about me, im not the one who keeps feeding the dead horse that has become the metro detroit area. |

Again you haven't proved a damn thing. What does a developers intention to building a retail/residential complex downtown have to do with states economic situation, the big 3, etc? |

Would "Super" Target be the 30,000sqft of grocery space, or part/all of the 100,000sqft of retail space? How big is a Target store? |

I tend to think that the 100,000 sq. ft. is for ONE retailer. I would expect the 30,000 sq. ft. market to be a "Whole Foods" type of upscale food store. And that leaves 25,000 sq. ft. for other smaller stores. |

A Whole Foods wouldn't be out of the question for a 30,000 sq.ft. footprint. They have new stores opening from 17,000 sq.ft. up to 86,000 sq.ft. |

Target prototypes range from 116,000 sq.ft. up to around 135,000 sq.ft. Super Target stores are around 185,000 sq.ft. A 100,000 sq.ft. Target store would actually be small, but considering a downtown Detroit location would likely be considered a "risk" they would likely scale things down a bit. |

Dude, if you think everyone here is a moron, what does that say about you? What person in their right mind would want to associate themselves with people they have such a great disdain for. Get over yourself, and leave the state that you hate so much. Eboyer, he is talking about OnStar, blue button with the word "On" on it, contracts to GM. I would doubt that he actually work there though as I assume CPU is just someone here trying to get a rise out of us. Probably lives in soulless Arizona or something. |

I can't believe this distraction hasn't gone away. It all started by CPU saying that Dembitzer (or some economic overlord that he was envisioning in his complete lack of commonsense) ought to spend money fixing our state's budget or rebuilding neighborhoods. May I propose that as he continues to post on this thread everyone just ignore whatever he says and continue seperate discussions that are on topic? |

Probably a good idea. For my benefit as much as anything, I spent the last 45 minutes or so browsing around, gathering "feel good" stories from the last few months. Some of them are repeats, and I've skipped the obvious big news (Cadillac Centre, Marathon Expansion, Quicken), but I feel it's a decent collection if you don't scan the news as obsessively as I do. Realize that while we've got a lot of bad news to face, there IS good news, and ultimately I'm fairly certain Detroit will prevail. Above everything else, we're surrounded by water, a lack of natural disasters, a relatively low cost of living, and a city with a lot of potential. Those all have to count for something, and if I had to bet on it, these latest developments are only the beginning. http://www.michiganadvantage.o rg/stories/detail.aspx?content Id=46fd822c-6176-4319-bd53-1f9 7b23bd6a3 http://www.reuters.com/article /pressRelease/idUS161258+08-Ja n-2008+PRN20080108 http://www.modeldmedia.com/tim news/caraco12508.aspx http://www.michiganadvantage.o rg/stories/detail.aspx?content Id=c1029fbe-df7d-4d31-9a99-2b6 005c4a4a7 http://canadianpress.google.co m/article/ALeqM5jUIMZikKPlt-2F U2ExEwxQ77VaVQ http://www.michiganadvantage.o rg/stories/detail.aspx?content Id=5e1abb98-a55f-4b00-bfd7-3a4 c14208cf4 http://money.cnn.com/news/news feeds/articles/prnewswire/CLTU 036A18122007-1.htm http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/article?AID=/20071219/NEW S05/712190397/1001/NEWS http://www.michiganadvantage.o rg/stories/detail.aspx?content Id=89ce513c-72cb-4a0d-89c7-84c 707918506 http://www.detnews.com/apps/pb cs.dll/article?AID=/20080110/B IZ/801100330 http://www.detnews.com/apps/pb cs.dll/article?AID=/20071219/B IZ/712190340 http://www.detnews.com/apps/pb cs.dll/article?AID=20077103003 97 http://blog.mlive.com/oak_busi ness_review/2008/01/hybrid_sup plier_bluwav_gets_12.html http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/article?AID=/20071209/BUS INESS06/712090597&theme=ROADTO CHANGE102007 http://www.waynecounty.com/new s/2007/turbo.htm http://money.cnn.com/2008/01/0 7/news/companies/gm_turnaround .fortune/?postversion=20080108 03 http://blog.mlive.com/oak_busi ness_review/2008/01/state_loca l_firms_target_milit.html http://blog.mlive.com/oak_busi ness_review/2007/12/media_gene sis_relocates_in_tro.html http://blog.mlive.com/oak_busi ness_review/2007/09/state_oakl and_expansions_to_cr.html http://www.metromodemedia.com/ innovationnews/creative0051.as px http://blog.mlive.com/oak_busi ness_review/2008/01/report_det roitarea_manufacturi.html http://www.michigan.org/medc/n ews/major/combo.asp?ContentId= 18A4101A-6ED9-4E5F-94B3-CDE4F3 F227E6&QueueId=1&ContentTypeId =7 http://blog.mlive.com/oak_busi ness_review/2007/12/azure_dyna mics_will_provide_ga.html http://blog.mlive.com/oak_busi ness_review/2007/12/continenta l_automotive_systems.html http://www.davenport.edu/Home/ PressRoom/DavenportUniversityp lanstoopensiteinLivonia/tabid/ 432/Default.aspx http://www.cityfeet.com/News/N ewsArticle.aspx?Id=27042&Partn erPath= http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/article?AID=/20071225/COL 06/712250359 http://blog.mlive.com/oak_busi ness_review/2007/11/vehicle_el ectronics_drive_supp.html I think one of the best quotes I've read in the last few weeks really sums up a lot: "To some degree perceptions become realities.
