The NEW High School/Middle school is fantastic, and the old building was collapsing under its own weight - whats bad about that being knocked down ? |

K - heres more data on the school - they are putting a new sports facility where the old school was. This is good news, trust me - the Notre Dame field was hard to even walk across, let alone allowing for the kids to play an effective ball game. They are looking at 2009 for that to be done. The old school got slapped down over a weekend - demolition guys do that all the time. No inspectors working to get in the way, and no annoying photographers capturing the torn in half building. Check todays local paper for more info - nice photos in that article btw ;) |

Are there any drawings or renderings of what the rec center is going to be like? We just moved to Harper Woods, and already I'm finding myself at the Neighborhood Club for activities and such. Sure would be nice to WALK to my kids activities! |

Woodmont? There's a house on the corner of Woodmont & (east) Harper that must have every inflatable decoration known to man on the front lawn. Anyone seen this house? |

I hope they do go through with the rec center. That city really does need something. If they were smart they would build a big enuff rec center so it could host some of the high school and middle school sports. |

Harper Woods was incorporated as a city on February 19, 1951 when the residents of Gratiot Township voted to incorporate as the City of Harper Woods. A Charter Commission was elected, a charter prepared and adopted, and a City Council elected. The City of Harper Woods came into existence on October 29, 1951 when the charter took effect and the first City Council was sworn in. According to the city's website, the City of Harper Woods was so named because it was then a wooded area and because its main thoroughfare was Harper Avenue (named for Walter Harper, founder of the nearby Harper Hospital in Detroit). |

not sold - relisting in the spring. we will have enough money to buy our new house and move before selling here, but I am reluctant to do that. So for the time being we stay put. Thats cool. |

Kelly road... I can still see the birds sitting atop the Chatham sign. Most of my existence in my first few years was directly related to that and perhaps Pollas. My guess is that it was between Old Homestead and Eastwood. Am I close? ______________________________ Detroit Jazzstage brings great jazz to podcast listeners around the world. jazz No. If you're thinking of the Chathams just north of the then National Bank of Detroit on Kelly which eventually became Vegas then a video store you're not thinking of the original. You are at a disadvantage because of your age to know the answer.....but more later |
