My present home town--Park City, Utah--is hardly a deli paradise. A couple of wannabes in Salt Lake City, but Kosher in Salt Lake City is as likely as finding something alive in the Great Salt Lake. My first taste of real Deli sandwiches was as a kid at Northland where my dad would take me to Brothers. I went to a school with a very prominent Jewish contingent, so I was always going to Deli's with my buddies families for lunch. Are there any left?....or better yet, what are the best ones. I had my first bagel with cream cheese, pastrami and corned beef sandwiches in these wonderful restaurants. Where would I go today to get that same kind of wonderful food. |

Sharms- I need some help, ... every region of the country has it's own culinary traditions; Boston has its beans, Maryland its Crabcakes, Maine its lobsters, and of course the South with its Deep Fried Heart Attacks; Utah is a blank slate to me. Besides green Jello, what do you people eat out there? |

Star Deli on 12 at Telegraph. Hands down beats anything else in the metro area, the holy Bread Basket included. |

Steve's isn't anything to write home about. Star on 12/Telegraph is the best around, but it's carry-out only. For dining in, I'm a huge fan of the Stage on Orchard Lake and Maple. |

Glad to hear someone else say it. You'd be surprised how much flak I've caught for saying Star was the best around. |

We do have several around here, but I daresay I have yet to find a decent matzah-ball soup in any of them. Here's to you, mom! (My vote is for Star & The Bread Basket) |

Star is the best. And it's my Uncle's place! Best tuna fish on the planet! Deli Unique and Stage are jokes. And I grew up in WB. |

Eboyer, so it's settled! The lox is on your uncle this week ;) Oops, don't mean to be a schnorrer. My apologies that this is a little off-topic, but this year for Hannukah my parents gave me "Yiddish with Dick & Jane" from Book Beat. It's hilarious! |

Star by far is the best..Corned Beef like no other..Tuna the very best...Uncle Harrys on the East side ,Rick is a great person and sandwich maker extraordinare..Harry ( His Father) use to own the Oakland Baths...Excelent Food there too and the company was everything from Judges to Bookmakers...I did like the Old Albans before they expanded back in the 60's-70's..plus my dad had a charge hahaha... |

I say Star is the best, followed by Stage. Deli Unique on Orchard Lake Rd. is horrible but the one in the Kingsley Inn on Woodward and Long Lake is alright. Steve's really is pretty good although expensive. Didn't a deli which is located in either oak park or southfield open up a location downtown some months ago? By the way, the Chicago delis have nothing on our delis. Metro Detroit delis are so much better than anything in chicago or "chicagoland" that it's not even close. I will give some props to Manny's in the west loop though. |

Uncle Harry's in SCS isn't bad given that there probably aren't 10 Jewish people living within 15 miles of the place. |

As sandwiches go, I like the corned beef and pastrami at "The Onion Roll" on Woodward and 11 mile. Neat little diner. |

Star. Hands down the best. My parents like Steve's & the Stage. When I worked in Lansing, you couldn't find a decent deli. It sucked. |

Nathan's Deli downtown on Jefferson? Don't know if it's 100 percent kosher but most of its sandwich offerings are. I hear good things about the corned beef so I need to get there for that. |

Maxie's Deli, though not a traditional Jewish deli, was pretty good when it was located across the street from Tiger Stadium at Michigan & Trumbull. Good place to grab some good food before a ballgame. But it's no Star or Stage. Re: Chicago delis, there are some good ones in the northern suburbs/north shore area, but it's so bad in the city that Steve's Deli is opening a Chicago location. Too bad we can't export a better product like Star or Stage to the Windy City. |

I'm always shuttling back & forth between the Bread Basket and Steve's Deli. I love their stuff! I'd toss in Star Deli as well because I genuinely do love their food there but hate their parking situation- it's always a pain because of the intersection there. |

Yea that steve's was supposed to open in Chicago in November but its still not there. Even the north suburb delis aren't as good as Detroit's though. I think the one that I was thinking of which opened a location in downtown Detroit, was gateway deli at fort and washington. Anyone been there? |

Steve's has the Chicago location on their website: 354 Hubbard (Across from East Bank Club) Chicago, IL (312) 467-6868 I haven't been there, MUST try the Bloomfield one. We used to love Deli Unique on Telegraph, the others are too far to be practical for a quick breakfast. |
