Check out the construction at the Griswold parking structure. The first concrete walls and pillars had been installed. YAY!

I've uploaded a bunch of new photos of the Book Cadillac, the Griswold Parking Garage, the Greektown Casino Hotel, and the Rosa Parks Transit Center. Among other things, there is about 90 pics in this batch. I've also linked the pics to other threads. book cadillac

Yah, the parking garage is going up so fast! It's such a bummer that the condos couldn't have held on. Hopefully, they will be back. We need to be able to have those bragging rights for the air rights purchase back! :-)

What happened on that masonry detail in Rocket_city's picture? Are they refilling spaces left by felled bricks?

They're replacing bricks that were loose and ready to fall out.

The northern addition is coming along. I'm surprised that no one has commented about the brick work for the addition. I find it to be sufficient.

I think it is one of the finest examples of modern brickwork to appear in the city in a long time. Very quality work!

I'd take some myself and post them if I wasn't 90 miles away. Too bad there apparently aren't any webcams to chronicle the progress.

Rocket City's pictures are 10 days old. What exactly do you expect to see on the exterior?

I was hoping for interior photos. There have been very few, most in video form or the 2 dozen from detnews.

Any ideas on when the construction elevator will come down and the facade will be put back up?

Hang on...does the addition make it so the BC takes up the entire block? I always thought that the addition just went along Washington Blvd. If it takes up the block now, does it support pedestrian traffic, or is it full of blocked out windows like a casino?

Looking at this picture by Rocket_city:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com /2314/2288514375_91bb68ff47_o. jpg

It looks like there are going to be windows and openings like the rest of the building.

I'm going to assume that this question has been answered, but with 791 posts on this subject, I don't have to look through them all for the answer to the following question: "Is the Griswold garage going to be connected by an overhead walkway to the Book Cadillac?"

I would assume so, since John Ferchill has always used the term "connected parking" as a marketing strategy for the project.

Wpitonya, I don't understand your question. If the addition covers Washington Blvd, it has to have depth, which mean it has to take up a side 90 degrees to Washington Blvd...this would be State Street. So, I think to answer your question, the BC will take up the whole block, that being identified as: Michigan Avenue, Washington Blvd, State Street, and Shelby Street.

In that picture of the addition, it shows the loading dock, which is accessable off of State Street.

I'm wondering if there will be different facade material that will be installed above the truck door since the brickwork was built around it. Hmmm.

So any specific news on the interior spaces (just words), detail on how they will compare to the originals? Looking at the renderings, I doubt they'll reconstruct the dining room and suchlike. Are they going to remake the retail space on the 1st floor? (with or without coffee shop, a good idea) That'd be great.

With the coffee shop, you could have a bit of a mini-mall...in a good sense; meaning a small mall.

The Grand Ballroom, Crystal Ballroom, Italian Garden, and Lobby Lounge are the spaces that will be closest to being "restored"-- more in a sense of spatial similarity than reconstruction of detail. The elaborate plaster moldings and marble won't be restored. It may well have broken the project budget if it had.

Wpitonya, from that pic it looks as though "filling up the block" is the case, in that if nothing else, the service area is screened from the street behind (Capitol Park).

Can't wait for that copper to rust/oxidise. I always personally wished that the large-windowed area would be some ballroom. What was it before?
