That's great. Finally some good news for the ol' gal. If only they had held off destroying most of the park to see how much money could have been raised. Perhaps they could have saved more of it.

Maybe we won't wind up with another overgrown lot littered with broken liquor bottles and empty Flamin' Hot Cheetos bags after all!

Hold on...it appears the Mayor's office is "moving the goalposts"

I just hope Kwame knows the $15 mil is for the stadium , not his legal bills.

He Needs to go, as of 6 years ago why can't he just let corktown have what it wants and what makes sense to planners, citizens, and preservationist alike. Each day I am amazed at the amount of people who come down to snap pictures. If the field is preserved it may just transfer to a viable business district along Michigan ave which is already well on its way! Detroit needs to start a history of preservation and end the culture of Demolition that has plagued this city for far to long!

Urban...when you say "let corktown have what it wants...." are you implying that there's a viable business plan with financial backing? I don't think anyone would prefer demolition to preservation as long as there's a business case for preservation, but maybe I'm just wrong about that. What proposals are you implying that the administration rejected?

My ranking:

(1) Preservation
(2) Demolition
(3) Old, vacant, decrepit structures.

Right now, Detroit has way too much #3, don't you think?

Not so, the fact is the Aug 1st was just one deadline that needed to be met. This interview with the head of the OTSC on Detroit Today from July 7 goes in more detail. So it's not that they're moving the goalpost, but reminding people that other obligations have to be met

Any chance that Trumbull could be renamed Ernie Harwell Drive? It's the least we can do for this guy. What a great Detroit legend.

I still support the razing of Barbara Rose Collins.

Trumbull changed to "Harwell Drive"?!
I love it!

Or Cochrane or, hell, Michigan Avenue.

What's this I hear about Martha Reeves saying she didn't know they've already started demolishing Tiger Stadium at yesterdays meeting? Good thing everybody is coming to the table with all the facts, eh?

I couldn't believe that when I heard her say it I couldn't help but chuckle in the audience.

Glad to see we elect people based on their track record not name recognition.
