As expected Geoffrey Fieger is contemplating running for Mayor of Detroit.

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pb cs.dll/article?AID=/20080912/M ETRO/809120383/-1/rss

Also take note of the name of the dude who is the president of the polling company.

Bernie Porn, the president of the polling company, confirmed that a mayoral poll is being conducted in Detroit but declined to comment on who is paying for the poll.

Couldn't possibly be worse than what the city has had. However, I don't see the need for an expensive temporary election, do you?
Let Mr. Cockrel do what he can (probably with no support from Ms congeniality Conyers). It is likely that business and metropolitan leaders will be happy to have the chance to work with him.
The key, of course, is to take a regional approach to reform.

Carpetbagger. Won't win.

But at least he's practiced law and will have thorough knowledge of what is legal and what is not as he leads the City.

Because he's white. LOL!

So true and so very pathetic.

Detroiters wouldn't recognize hope even if it came up and pistol whipped them.

Hope = white?

Then why did the voters of the decidedly white state of Michigan reject him, O Wise Ones?

Discuss.

Also, incompetence =/= black. Kwame's actually the EXCEPTION to the rule of his generation of black politicians. But Michigan isn't going to attract a Cory Booker or a Harold Ford, Jr... we have young brothers like that from Detroit, but they've all LEFT, just like most of the WHITE and LATINO and ASIAN intelligentsia with half a clue.

Those who have stayed here and done nothing have been allowed to stay and do nothing. In a democracy, that says plenty more about those who remain than about a specific race or generation.

People get the government they deserve. Detroiters deserved Kwame, because we voted him in twice. Michiganders deserve Jennifer, because we voted her in twice. And the United States deserves Bush, because we voted him in twice... and no, libs, shut up about stolen elections. If he really stole it, then why did you accept his presidency? Why didn't you take to the streets?

I find it incredibly ironic that the folks who vote for incompetence at any level have so much to say about Detroiters. It's a matter of degree and divestment, not that Detroiters are these awful people compared to you. But I'm glad that you've got the D to dump on. It's distracting you from the very real problems in our state, and especially in our country.

Take heart, Detroit critics. In another 30 or 40 years, you too could be Detroit! Won't that be something, now!

English,

I never suggested that hope = white.

If it did, then my comment could be taken as,

"Detroiters wouldn't recognize WHITE even if it came up and pistol whipped them."

We know that not to be true.

I think Feiger would do an excellent job as Mayor of Detroit. At least he defended himself against a government charge successfully.

Kwame is not the only EXCEPTION either. CAY was not good for the city in many ways. He was a divider. Detroit has also elected many other poor public servants. Monica Conyers recieved the second most votes amongst the city council. I don't think I need to go on.

Archer was good on the other hand.

I didn't say that white people will vote for him, I said that he won't become mayor of Detroit because he is white.

Also, nobody said anything about black politicians being incompetent. I don't know what lead you down that path but I can assure you that it is nothing in the above posts.

Feiger's race has nothing to do with him not getting elected to public office. Burton Leland has represented northwest Detroit in some capacity, in the State legislature or Wayne County commissioner, since 1980. Burton is of the Caucasian persuasion.
http://www.waynecounty.com/Com mission/Commissioner_new.asp?l ngCommissionerID=7
You may have also noticed that Sheila Cockrel and MaryAnn Mahaffey are also considered white. The common factor for all three is that they are perceived as representing the interests of their constituency effectively and honestly. Mr. Feiger, on the other hand, is seen as someone who puts his self-interest (read ego) ahead of that of his constituency.

Not only does Fieger not live in Detroit, his business isn't even based there.

At least Dave Bing's business is in the city.

feiger? never. it will most likely be cockrel or bing. bing has the support of the businesses, but not the community. cockrel has the support of the community, but not the businesses. feiger doesn't really have either. he's a fantastic and compelling lawyer, and he should just stick to doing what he does best.

I actually think Fieger is one of a few whites that could win an election in Detroit. Blacks in Detroit think highly of him, they see him as a fighter and someone who will support the causes that Detroiters have.

His business I believe is in Southfield which for many blacks is seen as a unscale extension of Detroit.

"Jennifer, because we voted her in twice. "

She was the lesser of two evils. Mr DeVos' "I know how to get us all jobs" platform would have resulted in a state full of pyramid schemes.

"How. Some detail would be nice."

For starters, Feiger has a reputation for sticking up for the little guy. He has prosecuted cases that plague the city like 911 response times .

He has already passed the indicted / acquitted smell test. He is recognized by lots of Detroiters. He is an excellent and diligent lawyer. He almost took a case for a family friend back in the day.

Just think he is a reputable guy who would work for the people. Exactly what has not happened for the people in a while.

FWIW - I don't know too much about some of the other candidates in the above posts. Feiger is the suggestion I could most easily identify with, and for those reasons, I think he would make a good Mayor. Plus he has enough money to campaign effectively.

I wouldn't vote for Feiger if he was the only candidate running. He is what he is, and he's very good at it..but what that is is NOT someone I see as representative of my own viewpoint.

I had the distinct displeasure of watching Mr. Feiger RUIN a trucker's life one afternoon in court..a woman had jaywalked into traffic, was hit by another vehicle and the child she was carrying was thrown under the trailer of the truck in question.
Sad & tragic case, but in no way the fault of the driver. Mr. Feiger happily drove a jury into a feeding frenzy, bankrupting this poor bastard who already felt miserable for his part in the incident.
Is this the sort of dishonest bottom feeder YOU want running the city? Not me..

A white guy running for mayor in Detroit has about as much of a chance as a black guy running for mayor in Warren.

I'd vote for him. First, move his firm downtown and buy a house here. Of course, he just added onto his offices, so thats quite unlikely.

But, if he is serious, he will open an office in the city - which is beneficial whether he wins or loses.

You wouldnt have to worry about him milking the city like Kwame - he's got more than the city does.

White people can win in the city based on name recognition. I'm white but would never vote for him. Hope he runs though because his campaign would spice up an otherwise dull election.

I would never vote for Fieger in a million years. I believe he has more than proven himself a dirt bag. However, it would be interesting to see how he and the other candidates would interact. Could really add to the comedic value of the upcoming election, especially if he some how pisses off Mrs. Conyers. The back and forth name calling would be priceless.

Usually on a political race on race by people playing race cards in Detroit. The majority black community would likely vote on black candidate to any city services. Feiger won't stand a chance before the primaries. However if he gives the black Detroiters want they want, then Feiger would be Detroit's great white hope.

Feiger has no chance in this election, and it has nothing to do with his race.

I am a white Detroiter, and I would vote for Cockrel, Hendrix, Bing, and Hood before I voted for Feiger.

The only way I would vote for Feiger is if he was running against Sharon McFail, Monica Conyers, Martha Reeves, or Footless Mike.

You know the commercial he's been running where he's standing in the hole of a circular table, with his law partners all the way around the it? When that airs, all I can think of is that one of the partners is being forced to look at Feiger's ass right now. Then as soon as the directer yells 'cut', that same partner probably has to help Feiger get out of the little hole in the table.
