Hey Cman710! I've been on both tours in the past, and rarely miss the Boston-Edison tour, but haven't yet made a decision on which one this year, and which other events, besides Noel Night, I'll be attending. Should be a fun December!!

Thank you for compiling the lists, Kathleen. It appears that Detroit is alive during the holiday season.
Gotta admit that I miss those nostalgic days of 50 years ago when we could walk up Woodward on our noon-hours and attend the Christmas concerts being put on by various Detroit high school choirs as they performed in the lobby of Grinnell's.
And there was always a "sing-along" by the audience with two or three pianists ( and maybe a Hammond organist, too) all playing together to keep us on key.

Thanks, Providence, for mentioning Mezzanine. I certainly don't mean to overlook Joe and his fine establishment, which, I'm sorry to say, I have yet to visit. I'll have to make it a point!

On Saturday, December 13th, the celebrating ramps up with Downtown Ferndale's Holiday Ice Festival. Now in its sixth year, the Festival brings a full day of activity spotlighting 40 spectacular ice sculptures carved by world champion Tajana Raukur, who will be carving on site at 10 a.m. at Schiffer Park, 11 a.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings and at 2 p.m. at Woodward and Nine Mile Rd.

The Ice Festival officially opens at 10 a.m. at Schiffer Park (Planavon & Nine Mile) when members of Santa's transportation team - live reindeer - arrive for a meet and greet with the children. The reindeer will visit until 12:30 p.m. Lunch with Santa at Buffalo Wild Wings($5 per child) takes place from noon to 1p.m., followed by FREE photos with the jolly old elf himself from 1 to 3 p.m. at Schiffer Park. At the same time, youngsters and parents can warm up with games organized by the Detroit Curling Club and the Ferndale Recreation Department, or head over to AJ's Café for a community sing-a-long from 2-5 p.m.

All festival long, the River and WNIC will be broadcasting from the warming hut, playing seasonal songs and passing out FREE holiday swag. Families and friends can hop on a hayride, taste the fabulous foods at Ferndale's Fine Arts Boosters (FAB) tables, sample cookies in the Warm Hearted Cookie Challenge at downtown merchants and wrap up their purchases in the afternoon at Blumz Florist. The day ends with an afterglow at Affirmations.

Where to See Ice Sculptures
View ice sculptures at businesses throughout downtown, starting west at Ferndale Foods and the Blue Nile, continuing all along Nine Mile across Woodward east to Credit Union One and Go! Comedy. Stop by the Woodward median to see the latest GM & Ford vehicles in ice, plus Nascar's #48. Kathleen thank you so much for compiling this wonderful list of events and shopping opportunities. I've already attended a couple of them and bought some gifts from a couple of the vendors and stores you listed.

I wanted to add to the Detroit shopping list:

City Bird sells Detroit-themed gifts including Detroit map soap and lots of other things:

Thanks, Bobl. I've worked for Gale, a publishing/information company, in all its various iterations for nearly 30 years, originally as an editor and now as a data analyst. I love information and I love to share it! Especially about Detroit and what it has to offer!!
