Indeed, Detroit IS a failing city. It is an object lesson that urban planners around the World point to when they want to instruct how NOT to evolve a city. So at least in that sense, Detroit has purpose. Who is to Blame? Racial prejudice. It has found it's purest expression in the evolution of Detroit. Fortunately, everyone suffers and that gives me comfort. The surburban setting that surrounds the burned-out hulk of the inner city is a spiritual wasteland, continually demanding more and more resources as it spreads further out in an attempt to out-race the fleeing black population. It will all end in tears. The State of Michigan. A white dominated State government, situated in a white territory on the other side of the State. Racism in this neck of the woods is accepted with a nod and a wink. "We don't want our tax dollars goin' to them there welfare mothers in Detroit" This statement pretty much sums up the prevailing mindset of the majority of elected officials in State Government. Detroiters will be subject to the wrath of bigots, who will take pleasure in dismantling the city's infrastructure, making the city even more untenable. Kwame was precisely the wrong major at the wrong time. Allowing city employees to move their legal residences out of the city. Shutting down major international institutions, such as the Belle Isle Aquarium not to mention closing the Belle Isle Zoo. Could he made the message be any clearer? "Folks!
