Hendrix raises more funds than Kilpatrick

While the mayor's donations are larger, former deputy mayor draws from bigger pool.

By David Josar / The Detroit News

The $10 that Vernon Fahrenkrug of Detroit gave the Freman Hendrix for Mayor Committee in April was the first campaign donation the retiree can recall giving a mayoral candidate.

Hendrix and Fahrenkrug both attend Christ the King Church, but the retired Detroit Public Schools teacher said he was motivated to give for another reason: "We can't have (Mayor Kwame) Kilpatrick in anymore. This is too important."

That points to a major difference in the way Hendrix and Kilpatrick have raised money going into the Detroit mayoral race primary Aug. 2: Hendrix appears to be stronger at a grass-roots level.

One thing that this article neglected to mention, Hendrix's 1,088 page pre-primary campaign finance report was the longest CFR ever filed in Wayne County - in large part because of the large amount of small donations that were made.
