Detroit is the first big city that I've ever lived in. I've been a bit suprised at the weight that some people give to pastoral endorsements for mayor (specifically The Council of Baptist Ministers/Pastors). My belief is that while I don't mind if a pastor wants to support a candidate, I do have a major problem with he/she doing it from his/her pulpit. I'd much rather prefer that the ministers encourage their congregations to pray about the election and to make sure to vote.
A couple of questions on the subject:
1. Do pastors openly endorse candidates for mayor in other large cities?
2. It seems to me that the pastors involved are overwhelmingly African-American. Is this a cultural thing or a Detroit thing?
Thanks for any insight into this.

Welcome to Detroit. That's how it is (unfortunately).
