About 20 community groups are hosting a public forum for Detroit City Council candidates 6-8 p.m. Thursdayat the Charity Lutheran Church, 17220 Kelly Road.

Groups sponsoring the event include Detroit Area Residents East, Yorkshire Woods (formerly Neighbors United), East English Village, Anthony Wayne Area Residential Effort and other members of the Eastside Community Resource Assistance Center.
The groups work to restore neighborhoods through housing, cleanup and restoration efforts.

“It’s important that residents get as much information as possible about those who want to govern our city at this critical time, and this forum is one way to accomplish that,” Diane Labach, president of Detroit Area Residents East, said in a statement. The group held a similar forum before the August primary.

The forum will be moderated by Darci E. McConnell, a former political reporter for The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press. She now operates her own public relations firm, McConnell Communications Inc.

Voters on Nov. 8 will elect nine council members from a field of 18.
