I can't believe no one posted this already! In a move that is sure to tip the scales to a Kilpatrick victory, 80 beauty and barber shop owners endorsed Kilpatrick http://www.freep.com/news/locw ay/date10e_20051010.htm Good to see they're getting involved in real politics (other than those around the barber chair), but this is funny! |

"By and large, from the mail carrier to the retired GM plant worker, Mayor Kilpatrick is the candidate they feel best represents who they are and what they want this city to be." I love that qoute. |

Laugh all you want Merchant...I think that is a good endorsement to have. They all live in the city and they vote! |

ILD, KK could receive the endorsement from the Ditch Diggers Association and you would say it was a good endorsement because their not afraid to get their hands dirty. |

If they are all voters who live in Detroit I would say it was a good thing. I would rather have endorsements from people who live in Detroit - police and fire all fled to the suburbs a long time ago. |

Not all of them fled the city ILD. If I was able to leave this city, I probably would as well. It cost to much to live here. |

Well that is nice Honey. But a majority have left - a survey was done about 6 mos ago (I am sure someone can find it) in one of the papers and nearly 2/3s of police had left w/ an est. of that amount on Fire. Regardless many are gone (there are none left in my neighborhood and there were at least 4 a few years ago) and that translates to no votes. |

Sure that some of them are still here, so that leads to some votes. Also, I am sure that the police and fire folks still have family and friends in the D. Which means some votes. Time will tell. |

Nice try "Ilovedetroit" but your claim is (once again) the exact opposite of accurate. The news report was 2/3 of police/fire live in the city. A little remedial math shows that 33% that live in the suburbs is not a majority. |

Show the proof Metro...I remember it being only 33% live in Detroit. And besides we are only talking about maybe 1000 people hardly significant as a voting block. |

"Ilovedetroit"...this "debate" was already had on a previous thread. Bringing up false claims weeks and months after they were first made won't make them become true. Keep trying. |

Regardless of what the percentage is living in the city of Detroit the people you mention (Police, FF's and the ever forgotten EMS) talk to citizens every day. Out of the 140K + calls EMS runs how many do you think go like this... PT-what took you guys so long? EMS-Sorry sir, there are only 24 ambulances in the City. We came from 6 miles away as fast as we could PT- 24? That’s it? EMS- Yes sir, 24 for 140K+ calls a year. PT- that’s not enough... EMS- Yes sir, I agree. Might want to talk to City council or the mayor about that.. While that appears to be a stupid conversation it happens a lot. I have probably had that type of conversation at least once a day for the past year if not twice a day. Do you not think the Police don’t have similar conversations on their runs? How many of us do you think actually defend the mayor in these conversations? While I can’t vote in the city even though I pay taxes I bet I have helped influence a few with that simple line.. "Sorry sir, there are only 24 ambulances in the City. We came from 6 miles away as fast as we could” Detroit EMS |

I love this line from the article:
quote:The shop owners praised Kilpatrick's attention to small businesses...
Umm, will someone please refresh my memory. What exactly has Mayor Kilpatrick done for small businesses? And if he's done so much, why are so many of them closing in my neighborhood? |

No, I'm a voter who is asking a question. The article made a passing reference to Mayor Kilpatrick helping small businesses. What has he done to help small businesses in Detroit? You can write me off as a drama queen or you can answer the question. Your choice. |

I don't know about your area. All I know is my street is fixed (after six years of complaining), there are many new businesses that have opened including a new shopping mall with stores that I like. AND we have lots of new housing and condos that have just been built in the last year. Granted I would prefer the current older homes be fixed up but at least something is replacing the blight that was here. So I see a lot being done! The only reason I did not support KK is that I still think McPhail was a better choice. Plus the mayor has had too much scandal and frankly some dumb moves - which I attribute to immaturity. Since McPhail is out - I toyed with the Hendrix idea briefly (then realized I could never do it) he is - to me: 1. Corrupt - I don't trust his business dealings. He spends too much time telling us how he took the 26 flights to the top as a civil servant. It seems to me he has too much with condos and business dealings with Soave etc to not have taken something somewhere. 2. I think he is a mean streak in him. Like Bratt I was at the event where he was so mean and nasty to people that it was shocking. 3. He does not have a plan. I think his police program is a joke. I don't like adding mini-stations. I want cops on the street not in mini-stations. And the 50 cameras is a joke - the casinos have over 400 in each one of them what is 50 going to do? 4. He has no vision. He is a bureucrat. 5. The school board takeover was appaling he was horrible, rude and did illegal moves with that. |

"Since McPhail is out - I toyed with the Hendrix idea briefly (then realized I could never do it)" -"Ilovedetroit" Once again, that contradicts (what else is new) your original claim that you were a Hendrix supporter that switched to McPhail. It also contradicts your more recent claim to have been undecided. Again, you can't keep your stories straight. "Like Bratt I was at the event..." -"Ilovedetroit" And once again, you lose it with "I was at an event...". Keep trying. |

Metro - Quit saying that. I HAVE NEVER SAID THAT. I live in Detroit and have for 14 years - other than a few months in Pleasant Ridge many years ago. I know you live in EEV and are a Detroiter. |

I thought you said I was from the suburbs? Geez, you still can't keep your stories straight! At least you got the Detroiter part right, that is literally the first thing I have seen you post that was accurate. Congratulations! (But true to form, you also had to add another false claim...the EEV part). |

Maybe that shop didn't get invited to the catfish and wingding party at the mayor's mansion. |
