I love the tabloid stuff that's often posted on this thread. I find it to be entertaining and even sometimes informative. As the election nears, however, I find myself craving more serious discussions about real issues. So here it is ...JOBS...How do we create them? Or better yet, How do we retain them? Can you attract business to a city where less than 10% of it's population has a college degree? I bring all this up because a couple of friends of mine are at risk of losing their jobs due to Delphi's bankruptcy. That's a real issue. And as ILD put it, " that could change our way of life". |

If you want Businesses to invest in Detroit, you need to slash taxes and remove the enourmous levels of useless bureaucracy. |

Kwame talks about creating new industries, however, Detroit doesn't have the talent to support any industry outside of manufacturing. |

Jonesy, If I weren't a gentleman, I'd tell you Fuc........................... ...Oh Hell, that statement is the most BULLCRAP statement I've read on this forum. This City and region has produced results and changes to the world throughout it's history, and I believe in its future. Don't under-estimate the talent this City has to offer in many fields. |

Jams, What fields? It's certainly not engineering, marketing, or design. I've worked in the Auto Industry for 10 years, and I know that the vast majority of people working in those fields are not from Detroit, and do not live in Detroit. For instance, GM's Vice President of Design, Ed Welburn, is a black man who lives in Detroit. Of the 150 designers that work under him, only 10 are black; of those 10, only 5 are from Detroit. I've worked in recruiting for GM for the last 3 years and am shocked by the small number of Detroiters who apply and qualify for our open positions. |

I'm guessing the "vast majority" of people in any field do not come from Detroit, simply because there are more people outside of Detroit than in Detroit. |
