I guy I work with, after eulogizing Rosa Parks, mentioned that he expects the news of her death to basically reverse Kilpatrick's fortunes in the mayoral race. Basically, he thinks with all the opportunities to mingle with the world leaders who will show up and all the free airtime to act mayoral, Kilpatrick can put on his best charm offensive and sway the all-important older voters.

Anyone agree? I know talking about Mrs. Park's passing as a political advantage is crass, but guess what? I know at least two men who are probably considering the same thing right now (though they'd never admit it).

This is a concern, I admit.

However, won't Dennis Archer be very prominently featured, as well. He is the respected legal authority who was assigned and became like a guardian to her. Maybe Archer will get equal time on the airwaves.

Archer was on Mildred Gaddis show this morning. I didn't get a chance to listen to his comments. I think that alot of folks forgot that Archer was like a guardian to Mrs. Parks.

That's a good point. I wonder if Archer and Judge Damon Keith are kind of scrambling now, and if their pretty faces will kind of counter Kwame's on television. I wonder what Hendrix will do? How can he squirm his way into the television circus we're seeing?

Damn--Poor Mrs. Parks and relatives. If she could have waited two more weeks, she'd be afforded a little more peace than they're going to get at the end of a political campaign.

Already heard a audio clips on freep.com. Kilpatrick planning to have a Rosa Parks day December 1st and naming a building in her honor.

It was already planned (the Dec 1 ceremony) which I beleive is the 50th anniversary of her stand on the bus. It is not politically motived.

minor threadjack, but I don't want to start a new thread to ask - has there been any comment from the White House regarding Mrs. Parks' passing? I have yet to see one anywhere.

Of course the mayor should leverage Rosa everyone else did including cardinal maida(never met or had lunch with her during her 50 years here, nor did max fisher ever neet her!!) Rosa was often a god excuse for a number of folks to push dogma and propaganda

Yeah, well - Hurricane Katrina also provided him with an opportunity to "act mayoral." It sure did give him a bump in the polls, didn't it?

Unlike Hendrix who did not stop his campaign to assist katrina victims nor did his campaign even issue a cya press release. I do hope and expect the mayor to leverage the Rosa Parks events cause that is what good mayors do when the have national media spotlight opportunities...

How does never meeting or having lunch with Rosa Parks "leverage" her celebrity or historical persona. Isn't it the opposite - no leveraging?

Also, I know that Fisher was a long-term resident of Detroit, but Maida just arrived here in the late 1980's. How do you know he never met Parks? And, if he didn't - should he be calling all the famous Detroiters to meet with them - just because he is the leader of Catholics around here? Perhaps he is more sensative - not wanting to bust in unless called?

Why should Freman stop his campaign to assist Katrina victims? Last I checked, New Orleans is in Louisiana.

Mello, are you still on that Lunch tirade from the Rosa Parks thread?! One could easily go thru hundreds, no, thousands of names of people who didn't go to lunch with Rosa Parks.... and yet you dwell on those 2 names.... how peculiar?!

Gistok,

I am an advocate the truth. So-called good white leaders who always played the "race card" that is not a new paradigm it is just a stark eye-opener for folks who did not think good liberal white leaders really do have little love for black people..

For the region's major religious leaders not to have never met with Rosa Parks during her residency here is offensive and informative.

Deal with the truth it can hurt but after a while it makes you feel better..

No - I think the overuse of an esoteric word demonstrates poor communication skills.
