All-

I see you on here saying if he wins I am leaving. TRUST ME...all will be well. Seriously he is a good man. I was TOTALLY against him (yes I can't stand Hendrix)...he is smart and he is intelligent. The next four years will be great for this city. He is going to be a lot better in how he handles things going forward. Plus the meida will lay off him a bit. There is no need to sell up and move. I am surprised since I got involved in the campaign how many intelligent, educated people are voting for him. He will do a great job. So don't list the house yet!

Now ILD, I heard you saying that very thing on another thread, that if Hendrix wins, you may have to move....

The flip side would be a real problem for Detroiters.... if Hendrix wins, where are they going to move to? To the Hendrix friendly suburbs?

If Hendrix wins I would strongly consider leaving. I really don't think he will do anything for Detroit - only himself and that small group of old white guys who run this city behind the scenes. They and Hendrix don't care about us only about making money. They will throw some trinkets and trash at us and then when they leave we will say "wait now what did he do for us"? We will get screwed but no kiss.

Who exactly is this small group of old white guys? The Illuminati? Masons? Elders of Zion? Please, reveal to us the identity of this secret cabal.

ILD, I agree with the subject of this thread that you started but you really lost me with this one...

But seriously, if we can survive all these years of GWB we can stand 4 more (maybe less if the Feds show up) of KMK.

If Kwame wins or loses the pink slips for many city workers are already filled out just awaiting a signature. One thing this election will solve is the campaining that has prevented frank discussions about resolving the budget deficit.

I think it is really weird how everyone keeps talking receivership. After 911, alot of cities immediately had financial troubles. Isn't the whole State of Michigan struggling? I haven't heard one city saying that they are booming when it comes to their books. Hell, the US economy is struggling. I just don't get it....everyone is struggling right now.

Bratt, the City of Detroit's problems are not due to cyclical economic downturn. We have a structural deficit that will continue until the City makes some pretty drastic changes.

We can either grow revenues or cut expenses. There is a limit on how much we can grow revenues since we already have a high tax burden in this City. The needed savings are likely to come from the expense side primarily through layoffs and cuts in wages and benefits.

Other cities just have to ride out the cycle until they rebound fiscally. For Detroit, we have seen a continuing loss in population. We also have revenue growth that has not kept pace with growth in expenses, especially healthcare and pension obligations. We've had some new sources of revenue (i.e. casino taxes) but have also loss some old sources of revenues (State revenue sharing).

As a result, our problems are a lot more severe and a lot more imminent than the State and most other cities.

Detroit's financial problems are much worse. Joe Harris has said that the city can only guarantee paychecks to its employees until around February, and after that it's anyone's guess where the money will come from to pay city employees. This includes police, firefighters, and EMTs. The money simply isn't there, borrowed or otherwise.

We don't need to discus this much further. Exit polls are indicating that HENDRIX is the victor! Kwame KILLpatrick, the party is OVER!

Don't worry, ILD. I won't leave, even if (God forbid) Kilpatrick is re-elected.

Thanks, ILD and Bratt. I'm in a generally pissy mood right now (as you may have guessed from my posts) - but your words are appreciated.

i never said i'd leave regardless of the outcome.....that's just silly.

i will begin to explore the possiblity though if somehow this city manages to find yet a another new low in its ability to govern itself and provide basic services...

i'm optimistic that regardless of leadership, there is some forward momentum in this city's fortunes, until i experience otherwise, i'm staying as planned
