Does anyone live there? I was comparing some apartments downtown and was curious about checking out this place. It seems like it gets little mention even though it is quite large and close to everything downtown. What's the deal? |

I like the Millender Center better? Its directly in front of the GM Building on Jefferson, you have much access to the New movie theater, stores and events that they have in the banquet halls. Since it is cold you really do not have to leave the building. To stay warm and to avoid going outside, all you have to do is walk the crosswalk over Jefferson. That sounds more like it. |

I found the history of the building online at their website. It looks like it is one of the few that never totally shut down. Started as an 800 room hotel and converted to apartments in the '60's. |

Excellent place. When its hot outside all you have to do is walk across the street to "Hart Plaza", its nice to know that if you stay in that location all of the things that you need is right there. |

This is about the Cadillac Square Apartments, not the Millender Center. Mbr, the reason you don't hear much about it is because it's really just your basic apartment building with few frills. |

excuse me Lmichigan, it did not seem like it was a big problem to Mbr when I have provided the information. As long as I am assisting someone with some basic information, you should not have a problem with that at all. Besides, I still believe that the Millender Center is Top Notch. |

He/she was asking about the Cadillac Apartments, and even after he ignored you you kept pushing the Millender Center. Great apartment building, sure, but irrelevant to the question asked. |

First of all, I am not going to argue with you because I feel that you are being very CHILDISH! I do recognize that MBR has asked about the CADILLAC BUIDING.... I was not pushing MBR about the Millender Center. Since you do not understand what it means to give compliments on other residential buildings. I feel that you are being very CHILDISH! End of discussion!! |

I've been in them and the Cadillac Apartments should be renovated, they're in such a good location. Motown Grill on the first floor is a great place to grab some diner food. Much better than Fu-Wah... |

lol at Chris_rohn Anyhow, the Cadillac Apartments are certainly going to be cheaper than the Millender if price is an issue. |

I am very interested in cadillac apts too. they are the only apartments right in downtown that are really in my price range. does anyone know if they allow you to paint the walls there? i cant stand plain white walls and that will actually probably be a deciding factor in where i move to as ridiculous as it may seem... |

It's called the New Cadillac Square Apartments, because the developer of the Barlum Hotel was the New Cadillac Square Improvement Company, who developed this property which was completed in 1927. |

Boy, I don't know that I'd brag about that lobby "renovation" That's a pretty hideous lobby. No relation to the building architecture at all. There are few places better located than the New Caddy Hotel. Campus Martius is your neighborhood park. The place would be a no frills and slightly outdated place. It appears that any updating they've done is out of character with the building. If that doesn't bother you, I'd say go for it. I don't know what the place rents for, but I'd compare prices with Lafayette Park. It's not that much farther to walk from Lafayette Park and most of the apartments there are better maintained that the New Caddy. |

When I was downtown at the Water Board Building I ahd the opportunity to view one of the apartments of one of my mothers friends. It was a decent looking place...It is kind of like a place that just...exists. Nothing fabulous about it at all. the Motown Grill has the best Marinated Chicken salad I have had. |

Fury: Yes, the MC is butt ugly. Actually, it's pretty much the big brown turd of outside aesthetic downtown architecture. However, the great thing about living there and the views that come with it is that you see all of the other beautiful downtown buildings but not your own. It's sorta like driving a escort through a classic car show. The concrete citadel itself is very functional but just doesn't compare the other landmark buildings around it. |

I have never been inside of the MC. What are the floor plans like. To be perfectly honest, I have always stayed away from the place due to my best friends sister jumped off of it some years ago. Sad but true |

They're a lot like traditional apartments. Lots of walls. Mostly square or rectangular floor plans. The view of downtown and proximity to everything in downtown makes it choice in my opinion. The price is a little steep, however, once you include all of the amenities, free heat, water, trash, basic cable, gym, pool, tennis courts, people mover stop, it turns out to be a pretty good deal. |

Um, real classy. Anyway, from the Cadillac Apts site:
quote:News boxes in the main lobby let you keep up to date on current news including the Metro Times, a must for those wanting to keep their finger on the pulse of downtown life.
Wow, I'd move in just to be able to get the Metro Times. Is that available anywhere else? |
