What are the best companies to use for home owner's insurance in the city of Detroit? (I.e., the least terrible when it comes to red-lighting?)

Thanks for the help! :-)

I use Auto Owners Insurance. When I first bought the house I had Nationwide. Nationwide was competitive, but I saved a hundred bucks or so going with Auto Owners.

Try going through a broker instead of an agency that only sells one companies products. They'll present you with several offers so you can go with the cheapest rates, not the one that's going to get the largest commission.

P.S. If they give you a Michigan Basic rate as your first quote, find someone else. This insurance sales person doesn't really want your business and you can always find a cheaper rate than Michigan Basic.

This is the program that Sharon McPhail setup in Ann Arbor...I have directed a number of people to it and all have saved good money. Between car and house I saved like 120.00 a month (if memory serves me correct)...good luck. They take sometime to call back (small company) and you have to over to A2 with pics of your house etc. Some friends of mine saved 5000k on their rental properties and cars...good luck. Ask for Sean/Shawn (it is a female) 734-741-5858.

Check with State Farm. I got a good rate (under $600 a year) from State Farm, and I live in the city.
