Sure sure we celebrate the Pistons, but does anyone still care about the ladies and their game of hoop in this town anymore? They're barely a blip on the newspapers and Lord knows you hardly even see anything of note on the broadcast news. |

Why are they a joke? They are good role models for little girls who like sports. I personally don't follow sports but I am glad the WNBA is out there. |

My daughters and I were there last night. Good entertainment... a hell of a lot more family oriented than a Pistons game. |

7milekid, gee, how profound. I guess "kid" is a good discription. Kids quite frequently exhibit immature ignorant uneducated behavior. I was at the game last night too and it was a blast. Bring on positive Shock talk. Haters beware! |

No one likes the small ball. I appreciate the role of professional women's sports and the role model aspect and all of that... But I can't get excited about layup after layup and push-shot 3-pointers and a relatively slow-paced game. Sorry, I'll stick to watching the men's game. |

30th Street, Yes, I watched the Shock-Sun game on TV this afternoon. Great game, especially when the Shock tied it up at the end of the 4th quarter. Listening to Bill Laimbeer argue with the Southern-twanged referee was also a lot of fun. |

The way I look at the WNBA is that it's a niche sport. I would never ever consider it not valid or even try comparing it to the NBA game. It has its own intrinsic value for its players, their staffs and their core group of fans. But to the whole of America and the Detroit area I don't know how much it's flourishing. I'd like to think that it could hold its own as a league and not be so reliant on the NBA coffers to support it. |

I'd rather pick up a dime on the ground than see the Shock win the WNBA title. |

Gee why all the hate..is it a lack of self-esteem or small appendage problems, they make pills for that don't they? On a positive note the Shock play New York on Thursday. We will get to see Barbara Ferris play. She was the last of the original Shock players. I miss her. |

Agreed. Why the hatred of the sport??? I'm not a fan of NASCAR; I surely won't watch it nor would I even attend a race but I wouldn't say I hate the sport. Again, to me the WNBA is a niche sport, much like the NHL is to the majority of America (actually didn't the WNBA have higher national TV ratings than the NHL the year before the lockout season?). |

Womens golf and bowling had higher ratings than hockey the year before the lockout, so I bet the WNBA did too |

I enjoyed my niche sport today. Was anyone else there. The Shock seem to be falling into this last minute win habit. It was really nice to see Barbara Ferris playing. Swin kept us in the game but Deanna Nolan came through at the last minute well second. Anyone have any thoughts.....(positive) |

I missed most of the first quarter, but saw the rest of the game on TV. This one was a real nail-biter. I do enjoy these last-minute victories, but right now my basketball nerves are already on edge on account of the Pistons. So a few nice and easy Shock blow-outs would be preferable, at least for the time being. I wonder when the new Russian girl will get to play? I also wonder how Cheryl Ford is doing? I hope she isn't seriously hurt. |

I watch the Detroit Shock now and then. I don't watch them as much as the Pistons & Red Wings, whenever they playing. |

It's not hatred, it's just so boring. Also, I'm sick of watching basketball for the time being. |

Its not for me either, but I would never discount its value. Then again I am not much of a basketball fan outside of the Pistons either. I think it is great that women are finally able to raise up to a level past college. |

Does anyone know if the WNBA is self supporting yet? Or are they still reliant on the NBA owners to fund them?? |
