Yeah, they were just breaking down a scene when I tried to drive one of my cross-town shortcuts through Brush Park just ahead of rush hour this afternoon. They had Edmund Street, all of one block long, closed down at the east end of the street. I only noticed it after I'd driven halfway down the block...brought back memories of Hollywood. I cannot complain when I'm inconvenienced by creative production!! |

i saw them filming at 11:40pm after i got off of work. i work at Loco's in greektown. they were filming the same scene over and over again of blade driving in his muscle car down the street. apparently, this one building is supposed to be blade's headquarters. during the superbowl, the city of detroit had put a football mural over the entrance of this building to make it appear half-decent. i guess it didnt look ghetto-gothic enough for the director, so he had one of his crewmembers imitate TRTL and put fake detroit grafitti tags all over the front of the building- where previously had been the crappy football SBXL mural. they also put up ghetto fabulous chrome letters saying "woodwork" or something. seems like a good choice of a building for a vampire-killer's hangout. i dont know the name of the building, but it has green letters painted in many upperfloor windows. the building was designed in a very ornate, maybe victorian style. |

It is usually not very exciting to watch filming...hell, I watched Jared Leto get his arm torched twenty times over for a five-second scene in The Panic Room. It took the course of a whole DAY...they had what seemed to be the whole Manhattan Beach fire department at the studio. I think they all wanted a glimpse of Jodie Foster...but she was nowhere in this scene. Fincher had an entire block of fake New York brownstones built in a warehouse, with one of them a fully-functioning three-story 100-year-old beauty that the entire film was shot in. It was pretty overwhelming stepping in the doors of the warehouse, Manhattan Beach directly into Manhattan...hadn't quite thought about it that way until now. |

Does anyone know if this is a "one-shot" thing, or are they planning to film the series here on a regular basis? |

Any pics of the inside of the Metropolitan? What is the history? When did it close? I always said that Detroit is a prime city for Hollywood. I actually boycotted BH Cop 3 because NONE of it was shot in Detroit. I heard the movie blew anyway. Why the BH cops didn't come to Detroit and help Axel Foley out for a sequel is beyond me. Obvious plotline passed up. Let's hope Blade is in town to stay. |

Hmmmm.....Before I saw them shooting the other day, I noticed that someone had "tagged" the building......This show will NOT be good for Detroit's image people....the tags say something like, "DETROIT, where the weak are killed and eaten"........I will walk by this afternoon to confirm...... |

Oh, thats great. They had better remove the graffitti when they are finished. To the average visitor it is going to look like some thug decided to ruin the building. |

Just watched the preview and the action looks great. Acting looks like it needs work though. Can't wait to see the show. I'm sure there'll be a couple of shots at Detroit's expense though. We'll be everyone's whipping city for years to come. |

Trust me, there are much worse things that happen to Detroit's image everyday. I dare say that nobody's perception of Detroit will be transformed by a fake tag on a passing building in a TV series. By the way, nobody who is not connected to detroit in some way even thinks about detroit. I wouldn't worry about it. |

This just came in the mail bag:
quote:Love your website. I've been visiting it for years and always seem to find something new. Anyway, I work at Spike TV and the channel is preparing to launch BLADE: The Series, based on the Marvel Comic and film series. In the series Detroit serves as Blade's base of operations and his nemesis is a billionaire philanthropist known for restoring old buildings throughout the city. Despite his seemingly generous nature he's actually a vampire, literally feeding off of the people of Detriot (a real vampire as opposed to a politician - THE IRONY!) Sadly we see very little of Detroit but an establishing shot reveals Blade's secret headquarters: The Metropolitan Building.

On a related note, I was in Palmer Woods today and saw a crew filming a movie in front of a house. There were about 3 DPD cars and an ambulance parked on the lawn of the car (for the film I'm assuming) and a bunch of white, college aged kids standing around. So I walked up to a teenager and and asked what the name of movie was. Quoth the child, "Nevermore" -Lenore |
