The NASCAR folks still think we have an Aquarium:
http://www.nascar.com/2006/com m/06/14/tailgating_mis/
- Pity we don't.
The Administration ought to seriously consider reopening America's oldest - and Michigan's ONLY public aquarium.
Sad to say, our Mayor was snowed by the Oakland Zoo director who convinced the mayor he was going to build a "Super-Aquarium" downtown. This proposal led the administration to close the aquarium. As it turned out, it was all a ruse so that the Oakland Zoo could cut loose their Detroit commitments. They were just going where the money was, making it easy for L Brooks Patterson, that great Anti-Detroit booster, to agree to start funding the Zoo.

You should email them and tell th em to donate some money to open the place back up.

What are the plans for the aquarium building, and also, for the old zoo?

NASCAR, like the rest of the civilized world, obviously doesn't give squat about keeping up with what's happening in Detroit (yawn!). And why should they? So, their publicists are not given updated info, and they are not motivated to waste their time with trifles.

I like the Belle Aisle Aquarium, but it always smelled awful in there; like and eel's twat or something.

Has anyone ever seen the aquariums in chicago, tampa, ???
Geez- can't the great lakes state scrape up enough money to have something similar to these?
pathetic indeed!

That sucks! I e-mailed NASCAR and told them about their mistake, and provided them with numbers and websites to Kwame's office, the Detroit Zoological Society, and FOBIA. I asked if they could at least address the error and provide those contacts in a follow-up.

The Panorama was cool. For now, it was as close as I could get to going (except for that one time I walked into the fishless abandoned aquarium).

All the ART in the DIA belongs to the City of Detroit, except pieces donated and rented for specific exhibits; including the building & grounds. Damn .....

and btw: Fukk that delapidated ante-bellum aquarium. Glad it's closed!!

Black-atcha ..... sending Esteban & Leyland a "wedgie" for dipping into something that's none of their damn business.

Most likely scenario is that it will be sold to Matty Maroun of Ambassador Bridge fame and major Kwamme contributor. The property will then immediately sold to Walmart for a 500% profit.

To play devil's advocate, I would bet Walmart would do a better job with the island then Kwame is doing. Poor Belle Isle, it's like seeing a friend die a lingering death. Kwame should have been embarrassed sponsoring a Fathers Day event there with the Island in such sorry shape.

Oh yeah? A wedgie? How about I send you a "swirley"?

I just e-mailed NASCAR and they said that they "appreciate the time you took in researching this information for us" and "hopefully we can add your information to the article". So now it's everyone's damn business.
