If it's a stupid question then what does that make you for answering it -- even if your answer is stupid?

Belle Isle? Whats that? It must be on the east side my dad told me that they have garishly dressed polish people on the east side consuming mass quantities of beer and sausage and that I should never ever go there.

He also told me to stay away from the Ivahoe, Turtle Soup Inn, and a strange thing he referred to as Buddy's. Belle Isle must be by that Buddy's place if its on the east side!

It's not "east side", it's Eastside. I can see that you got your father's stupidity in ideas and spelling, Detroitplanner!

Yes, once on Senior Skip day jjaba got lost with a girl in the woods in a canoe.

Yes, dad took jjaba to band concerts, Detroit Concert Band under the baton of Leonard B. Smith.
Loved the music to this day and watching those big freighters with The Rock as pilot.

jjaba, Proudly Westside.

Love to ride my motorcycle on BI, but only early in the morning. Otherwise, it's too hectic looking out for all the people who are drinking & driving & smoking & looking cool, and basically doing everything but paying attention to where they put their car or how it affects the people around them.

Geez, riding to california twice has really taken the joy out of riding around town for me...

Jjaba, what were the names of those parks? I once heard of a park called Hines something or other. The Woodward River was too swift to ford it to the Westside! Besides we heard there were people on the Westside that had wooden sticks with metal fitted on the top and they use to hit some kind of little white ball all through the words. That rumor was too scary forus!

Yay, it's fishfly season in my neighborhood right now. I can't think of anything to compare the aroma to other than an unwashed crack-whore.

Jjaba,

I am planning to visit these places on my next trip out west. I would also like to see that street called "Telegraph". If I am going to California, I might as well visit these places while I'm in the area...

ErikD, you can ride W. Outer Drive for miles of Westside pleasure, and then go back via Grand Blvd.

Near the end of W. Outer Drive's Southern end, you'll be damn close to Telegraph Rd. (US 24) where you can buy the best Coney Islands West of downtown.

Enjoy your travels on the Westside of Detroit.

Tarkus,
There's a lot more than liquor stores on Livernois & 7. For example, there's the Happy To Be Nappy Hair Salon.

Most Eastsiders remember the tunnel under Jefferson. My friends from the Westside ( yes we do mix with the Westsiders from time to time) Don't really remember the tunnel. We used to take the tunnel from E. Grand coming from Kercerval. Those were the days. Maybe Hoffa is buried under there now. 313

Belle Isle, has no true claim, it is 'fair game' regardless of the side of town you are from, West or East side.

Now on the other hand.....

Eastsiders claim, Lakewood Park, Chandler Park,

Westsiders claim, River Rouge, Riverfront Park(on the end of the Blvd.)

Highland Park claim, Palmer Park.

First we hear that everything downtown is "fair game" and now we hear that Belle Isle is "fair game."

Soon we'll be hearing that Lake St Clair is also "fair game."

Hey, this westsider remembers the tunnel on E. Grand Blvd. under Jefferson well. There was a sign at the entrance, "Do not blow horn". We always blew the horn.

What was meant is that Belle Isle is such a wonderful place, Westsiders venture over there in a direct route, do their business, and get the hell home.

jjaba tells it like it tis.
