It looked like two guys were taking off the overhang today. This is how the Hudson's tear down started. Is it beginning here now?

It looks like they are just fixing it up. I believe that they are probably fixing it up so that they can sell it to a developer. That is my take on things.

The latest edition of Hour Detroit lists the "2006 Detroiters fo the Year" as the "Downtown Developers". Amongst a deserving (but not complete) list of folks who've done some great work, including George Jackson, Sean Harrington, Robert Porcher and others; is Atanas Ilitch. They didn't really say what he's done other than some projects their planning to do.

Regarding the UA, the following was stated: "Other structures like the United Artists Building adn the Theatre are being packaged with surrounding city-owned land for a major office complex."

There's a lot left for interpretation between the lines there. It could mean the UA is being packaged with surrounding city-land for a renovation and parking ramp deal, or it could mean the UA is being packaged with city land so that everything can be leveled and a glass box POS put up in it's place.

probably safety concerns to avoid lawsuits if someone comes to look at the building at a piece of concrete falls on them.
