I was just curious, anybody else making plans to go out for the Tigers White Sox series in August? It was amazing how many Tigers fans were present for the Cubs series. I'm sure that a good portion of the fans may have resided in Chicago or the surrounding area, but there were tons of people I knew who flew, drove, or took the Mega Bus from Detroit. While nothing is concrete yet, I have checked into flights and have another friend willing to tag along for this trip if I go. If the Tigers can continue to hold on to first place or keep within a few games of the White Sox, then that series come August could be a huge one. Fury13, You game? Tell me you will at least be sporting a Tigers hat to go with your full blow White Sox players uniform. |

Chicago is way cooler than D-town, people are downtown always, it's clean and they restore their old buildings, not tear them down. |

Pacypacy, this is not a good place to make such a statement. But Welcome to the Forum. If the right folks read your statement, you might be for quite a ride. Fasten your seat belt, you'll need it. jjaba, Westsider Bar Mitzvah Bukkor and Tigers Fan. |

Chicago is in a whole 'nother echelon of cities. It is large, and growing. Detroit is still pretty cool despite its shrinking. It's a different kind of city, and until Detroit gets new industries and corporations and jobs to make it's economy boom on the scale of Chicago's, there is really no use comparing the level of vitality in each respective city. Go Tigers by the way...I f***ing hate those White Sox and will make a trip over there if we face them in the playoffs. |

Pacypacy, I guess you were asking for people to refute you. It's true that the Loop is very clean, but I've driven through a few times (Sundays, late night) when the streets there are as empty as any could be and this is because the Loop is still primarily an office center with some retail and a growing but small amount of residential. Most people are not downtown beyond the 9-5, they are outside of downtown where it's less clean, where you will find unrestored and abandoned buildings. It's a cool place, surely if Detroit is, but it's not utopia either (although as a tourist visiting downtown and going to the department store it might seem like one). |

I'll probably make it to one of those games. I only live about 2 hours away (Kalamazoo). I went to one Tigers game there last year and had a good time, although not entirely welcomed by the Sox fans. But that's what makes it fun. My buddy was throwing peanut shells at the Sox goobers 2 rows in front of us. |

As a Cubs fan, the game last saturday at wrigley was downright depressing. The Tigers had 3 runs before I got to my seat, and from that point forward I heard more "lets go tigers" and "o e o, magglio!" and huge cheers for Tigers hits and strikeouts. Us Cubs fans had/have so little to cheer for anyway, then the Tigers fans do that to us. Might as well change the name to Comerica Park - West. Damn that was depressing. NOT the sorta environment it was back in 03 and 04 when Wrigley was so full of energy. Now THOSE were fun baseball games! |
