Niels Chester Sorensen was the architect for the clubhouse on Rackham Gold Course which the city is sellling. The developer wants to raise the structures and land to build a sub division of some 400 houses. I am trying to find any records any one may know of for the golf course and the architect. Info on both seems to be scarse, anything you know would be helpful.

Not only is there a deed restriction put in place by the Rackhams, there is a prior deed restriction by the Baker Land Grant Corporation who originally owned all of the land that is now Huntington Woods, some of Berlkey and some of Royal Oak. That original deed states, as does the Rackham deed, that that land is set aside, in perpeturity, as a golf course. A judge will be deciding, soon, if the original deed is still valid. As per Rackham heirs, at the time of Horace Rackham's death in 1933, there were 29 heirs. Today, presumably, there are many many more. How many are needed to sign off to break the deed is unknown. Once before the deed was broken so that the state could take Rackham Golf Course land for the 696 freeway. No matter how you slice it, developement of the golf course would be a disater for the well established community of HW. We will all be witness to the battle of monied and greedy developers vs the grass roots efforts of a tiny community. My money is on the grass roots winning.

Was the 696 land taken through condemnation? I'm guessing that could clear a deed restriction. If so, they may not have needed any permission.

No, it was not via condemation. Some heirs signed off and however many it was, was sufficient.
