Model D article

Wow, I had no idea that tech town has already been this successful. 40 companies and 1,000 employed? Extremely impressive! I remember reading about the projection for future employment of 10,000 people and thinking how ridiculously optimistic that was, but now...maybe it's not so out of reach.

So which one of you is going to start the company that employs the other 9000? :-) I hope the longer term goal is for TechTown to be the catalyst for transforming and diversifying Detroit and Michigan's economy, which will mean it'll have to create many tens of thousands of jobs.

I'm curious is Techtown meant to be a replacement for the Metropolitan Center for High Technology(MCHT? I never heard anything in the papers about the failing of MCHT. Does anyone know why it failed?

MCHT is still on-going. Who said it failed?

Is it still in the former Kresge World HQ on Cass Park??

I always thought that that building would make a grand museum building.

did you read the article itsjeff?

------------------------------ -------
Bell, a lawyer and engineer, is not only trying to develop a technology incubator, which given the failure of the Metropolitan Center for High Technology a few years ago is a challenge in itself.

Jfried, I admit I didn't read it either (until now). So does anybody know what (if anything) the former Kresge HQ (across Cass Park from Masonic Temple) is being used for??

That's a beautiful building!

Itsjeff is right for once. The Metropolitan Center for High Technology is still in business. But the article is also right because Metropolitan Center for High Technology is also a failure.

I know that CEDAD, and the Sierra Club have offices at the Metropolitan Center for High Technology, and they conduct some WSU computer training, but does the center still function as a technology incubator?
