Awesome headline from the Freep link above:

"Book-Cadillac will reborn in spledor"

"Spledor?"

From the Freep article:
"For Mae Straass, 87, of Dearborn, the rebirth of the Book-Cadillac brings back memories of her honeymoon there in 1938 with her late husband, Lawrence.

I was so glad to hear that theyre going to keep it and build it up, because that was a great hotel, Straass said."

I wish John Gallagher would just stick to the facts. I'm surprised he would lower himself to this type of journalism.

"A steakhouse, sports bar, and coffee franchise will be part of the mix."

Ha! I nailed it! ;-) Although a sports bars seem a bit odd for an upscale hotel.

I bet you that sports bar and coffee shop will be on the street level, and the steakhouse will be on the lobby level. Hopefully, there will be cocktail service in the lobby for people who want to drink in a quieter atmosphere.

Congratulations, Detroit! This really is great news! Can't wait to come visit!

A new thread for a major new announcement is justified, speaking as an occasional member of the thread police. (Granted, a bunch of the other threads are duplicates.)

Anyhoo... watching the 11pm Channel 4 news bit on the B-C right now.

Not really. It would only be odd if it was the only restaurant. The Amaway Grand has a sports bar.

Did you hear the tidbit on channel 4 that the Lindell AC memorabilia might end up in the BC? I wonder if the Sports bar will be a rebirth of the Lindell AC. Of course, if they reuse the name, it will never be like the original.

True, but the Lindell AC building they're about to tear down isn't the original building either. Making the Lindell AC the BC's sports bar would allow the hotel to capitalize on even more history. The history of the BC will serve as a significant draw for it, especially its sports history, and having the Lindell AC as its sports bar only bolsters that image.

Crew, you should have started a separate thread regarding the possibility of a new Lindell in the BC.

OK, I've actually got a tear in my eye. Hopefully it is being caused by the dust flying instead of hope dashed by another refinancing project gone bad.

I'm "book"ing my room for the summer of '08 right now.

I was just driving down Washington Blvd. and saw four men with hard hats looking at the building on the outside. Looks like a good sign to me.
