I'd love to get to that stadium. I've heard that it may be the best of all of the new stadiums. Not this year, though. However, I will probably make the road trip to Cleveland for the Tuesday night/Wednesday afternoon games at the end of July

Went to Pitt last year. Great, great town and a nice ballpark. I rate it ahead of Comerica Park but behind Jacobs Field and Camden Yards among the new parks I've been too. You will have a good time in Pittsburgh if you are going, it is a really nice town.

I'm tempted to go down Saturday but I don't think I can swing it. I do plan to be in Cleveland for Tigers-Indians series at the end of July. It'll be my second trip of the season to see the Tigers at the Jake. Even when the Tigers were a 100 loss team, I tried to see them play at Jacobs Field once a season. I like the park that much.

dangit! i'm not going, but i love pittsburgh! here's a tip: stay at the riverfront sheraton...take the incline up to mount washington. great little party places up there, and wonderful people. (in fact, you may meet some sports celebs at the laid-back joints atop the incline - hint!) also...have a primanti brothers' sandwich...but only after 1 a.m. (like a lafayette coney.) one can't say they've experienced pittsburgh unless they've been to primantis!

and...notice the near non-existance of litter downtown. i'm especially thankful that mr. penske is taking the initiative in the motor city. it makes a huge difference. people throw wrappers down where people see wrappers. people find trash cans for their wrappers when the streets are clean. it's a nice synergy.

oh - and don't forget to hit station square! the grand concourse is an awesome train depot converted into a muer-owned restaurant, and if classic architecture and swanky dining is not your style - there's a hooters right nearby ("delightfully tacky.")

I really like Pittsburgh and seeing a game in that stadium is a priority for me. This would be the perfect opportunity but shit I'm too busy. Go Tigers and have fun all who are going!

btw Thecarl says it right. I'll add that you all should check out the University of Pittsburgh area in the Oakland borough of town to see what a vibrant, codified, mass-transit infused midtown/cultural center look like.

p.s. the "incline" is a trolley that goes near-vertically, on tracks, up the mountain overlooking the city...

i'd be there if it weren't for my five-month-old bundle of joy!!! just kidding, we'll have our family trip there soon enough!

If you want a solid average folk, corner bar in Pittsburgh go to Mitchell's. Great food and cheap beer! It's right downtown (one of the only bars down there) and they are friendly and real.

There's a couple outdoor cafes on Market Square or something like that, which is then just a straight walk up 6th St to the park.

Jelk likes Jacobs Field and the Browns but as a city Jelk prefers Pittsburgh to Cleveland. Jelk also likes talking about Jelk's likes and dislikes in the third person.

A buddy of mine was there Friday with his wife. If you saw Rod Allen today mention a Tigers fan that got his attention on the street after the game last night, that was him. :-)

I was there Sunday! Great game...little too close for comfort towards the end though...

There was also a bit of a bonus if you were at the Sunday game...PNC stadium got overflown by a Stealth Fighter twice during the 7th inning...must have been an airshow in the area somewhere...very cool to see

I'm not sure why I would do that line on this thread? You'd have to be pretty stupid to try to make the Few Good Men routine work on this thread.

Great time in Pittsburgh...Sat 8 rows from the field at the end of the tarp along the 3b side on Friday (not bad for buying them online). Talk w/ some Pirate season ticket holders sitting next to me. We started talking football (naturally Millen came up "How does he still have a job?") he said that their #1 draft pick (Santonio Holmes) was getting into trouble. I told him that what you get for drafting a Buckeye. He got a good laugh. They tried to get me to talk to this cute blond sitting a couple rows ahead of us wearing a Pudge Rodriguez shirt. I didn't, but I should have. She was alone. (D'OH!!)

Took a beer tour of Pennsylvania with Rolling Rock, Yungling, and Iron City Beer. All good, but I like Rolling Rock the best.

PNC seems A LOT like Comerica, yet the archetects and designers were not preoccupied with having the widest concourses known to man which makes PNC all the better. Foul balls actually go into the upper deck (They don't do that at Comerica, and at Tiger Stadium, they would sometimes go on or over the roof behind home plate, but I digress...).

After the game some Pirate fans (or Bucco fans as they are called in Pittsburgh) started badmouthing the Lions. I had to laugh, I mean, it's like trying to put down Chicago fans because of the Cubs. They've been so bad for so long, you can't get angry at their ineptitude, you just gotta laugh.

All and all, a good time. At least it was better than Saturday.

There was a lot of trash talking going on while walking back over the bridge after the loss on Saturday. It was all good-natured (I think) but I was just thinking "win or lose, we're still in first. Win or lose, you're still in last."

One street musician yelled "How good can they be, they lost to the Pirates!" I suppose he had a point. LOL
