They'll be alright...it'll be back to the old days though, of 50-55 wins. No more complete domination of the regular season. |

I'm confused (more than usual). We were going to give Ben in excess of 40 million...10 per year, and we didn't. So why isn't that same amount now availaible to us under the salary cap to sign/trade for someone else ? |

Bongman, Becasue resigning players doesnt count against the salary cap, only signing or trading for new players, you could pay everyone on your team 100 million a year as long as you resigned them every year |

One person doesn't hurt the team sure, but it hurt the chemistry! I'm not writing 'em off just yet, the Pistons still have some moves to make, but it'll be a closer race in the Central now (between Detroit and Cleveland, Chicago will be around .500) |

Getting Muhammad at a discount and not signing Wallace to the five year deal he wanted was probably a good move. Although Wallace is still a very good player he doesn't play with the same energy he did even two years ago and he is an offensive liability like few players of his caliber in NBA history. I think the missed opportunity was in the 2003 draft and not getting Chris Bosh hurts the present team. We do have two first round picks next year and three returning all stars with Tashaun Prince probably ready to take his game to the next level. Although they will take a slight step back next year I believe expectations will be much lower and if they can acquire more players to have a steady nine man rotation, they still have the centerpieces in place. |

Pistons are doing a Fla. Marlins song and dance. So we had good years, save some money, rebuild, and the fools will still warm the seats. That's jjaba's take on it. Raw Capitalism and the fans be damned. jjaba, bad day in Detroit. |

I think Joe D will plug a few holes and they will continue to contend. Joe D is the one guy they can't afford to lose. He has built a team with no super stars. Once they get to thinking they are, bad things happened. Our supposed MVP disappeared in the playoffs. |

In close games, Ben was definitely a huge liability especially later in the game. He couldn't score, teams would foul him just to break up our momentum and he certainly could not make a free throw. Chemistry is the issue, but we have to have faith in Joe D to keep it going. |

Don't under estimate the services of Ben Wallace. My opinion he was the glue that held the Pistons together without him the prisoners will run the asylum. Looking back we knew this day was coming I don't think Ben was ever on board with the liberated offensive or winning games 101 to 100. Pistons spent the last 8 years becoming the defensive force of the NBA in one year the Flipster took it all away. Piston fans get ready for 1st and 2nd round bouncing out of the playoffs. |

You don't win that many games with a crummy coach. I don't get people bad mouthing Flip. The players are the ones who tanked in the playoffs. Ben seemed to be sleepwalking in a few of those games too. He was worse than Shaq at the free throw line as well. Now he can be super rich on a losing team. We'll get by without him. |

Paulmcall, Your recent comments on the latest Piston/Ben threads have both hit the nail on the head. Some of these comments from other forumers let me know that a lot of people don't know S**T about basketball. later - naturalsister |

Paulmcall, The Bulls are not a losing team. They lost to the Heat in six games in the playoffs without any inside game. Now the have Ben, P.J. Brown, Viktor Khryapa and the #4 pick Tyrus Thomas. |

I hate to say it, but the NBA is no longer the same game that the Pistons dominated. Defence is again, going to be second to offence. Its the way the officiating is geared to now. How many times were the Pistons called on silly ticky tack fouls? Look at Wade, the guy just drives in the lane and gets called for the foul? ten years ago that was not a foul, heck even 2 years ago that was not a foul. Remember Ginobli in the 2005 finals vs the Pistons? How many time did the Pistons get called for fouling him? The league has changed to more offensive, one or two superstar league. Its funny, but the more things change the more they stay the same. Remember the Bad Boys? The same thing happened to them. They began to breath on Jordan and were called for fouling him. Prince has to step up, so does Billips. Chancey was almost non-existant at times, as was Rasheed. Rasheed seems to help this teams chemistry, he keeps them cool in the locker room and on practice and can ignite them during game time. However, he is not consistant. They need the same things they needed two years ago. A consistant 25 points a game scorer, and a deeper bench. This Mohamed guy if healthy will give them aroun 8-9 rebounds a game, with the potential to average close to 10 points a game. The Pistons would be able to leave him in as he does shoot well from the line. He also carries the potential to score if given the chance. Unlike Ben, when we used to send the ball to him in the paint he was always a liabiliy because of his poor decisions. |

You have a starting lineup of: Chauncy and Rip, Prince and Rasheed, and Nazr. You have a bench of McDyess, Delk, and Delfino. With no other changes, that is still a team that wins 55 games, makes it to the 2nd round of the playoffs -- and at that point anything can happen. Which, ironically, is exactly where they were between 2003 and 2005. It was onlylast year that they became dominant in the regular season, and were expected to win in the playoffs. |

Tony Delk decided to become a free agent odds are that he will not be a Piston. The pistons only have 1.75 mil to sign someone. If they are going to get stronger on the bench it will have to be through trade. But the Piston should still win about 50 to 55 games and make the 2nd round of the playoffs. |

You are correct about Delk. But my point still stands -- they are, on paper, about exactly where they were in the power rankings between 2003 and 2005. Which was no. 2 or 3 in the east by most accounts. |

I was at a 4th of July fireworks rooftop party in Brooklyn last Tuesday night, and some prick from Chicago with Bulls season tickets ("two rows off the floor", as he repeatedly bragged) wouldn't shut the fuck up about them getting Ben Wallace. After 10 minutes of listening to his gloating, his hatred of the Pistons, and outright slamming the city of Detroit in general, I had to walk away, because I was ready to smack the shit out of him and throw him off the roof. I'm not a violent person at all, but this asshole really drove me to the edge... |
