jjaba was told that the Toledo Mudhens AAA ballclub has players from Cincinnati AND The Tigers on it. Is this true and do other teams operate like this, with a split roster? jjaba had always assumed that the Mudhens were ours. jjaba. |

I still remember when the Tigers affilliate was Evansville. Why did they change? Must be the $$$$, same reason Wings don't send players to Adirondack, but now Grand Rapids. I still miss hearing George Kell describe a Tigers pitcher getting shelled in the first three innings, "He could be in Evansville before the night is over..." |

Ned Skeldon Stadium is where the Hens used to play. They moved to their fancy new downtown ballpark a few years back. Actually, a pretty nice place to watch a game, but with none of the minor league charm of the old Skeldon. |

Skeeter was a journeyman infielder who bounced around from team to team, occassionally getting a late season call-up but spending most of his time in the minors. He played half a season at Toledo in the early 90's, and spent two or three years with the Tigers after that, being a bit of a cult figure with the Tiger Stadium faithful during the Cecil Fielder years, consistently batting in the .280's. I seem to remember him making his first opening day roster with the Tigers in 1992 at the age of 35. |

Thanks Cushkid. jjaba will be in touch. Skeeter Barnes, great story. So many players like him who never make the Show much but still have their moments of glory. No doubt, Skeeter played Yankee Stadium remembering Rizutto or Fenway, wandering out to see the ghosts of Teddy Baseball. jjaba, who once kissed the Green Monster at Fenway. |

So back to the original question, has any team sent players to Toledo other than the Tigers? jjaba's son insists that Cinti. has players there. jjaba. |

I don't know if the "old" mudhens stadium is still called Skeldon.....It is now part of a larger recreation area that has been enhanced since their departure. I was there last year, and it was just as I remember it.....no character at all, really just an accumulation of large bleachers. |

My girlfriend and I went to Skeldon Stadium back in 1994. I knew it was a minor league team but it looked like a softball complex! The best thing was the free parking. Last year my dad and I went to the new stadium, Insert Your Name Here Park. Very nice place to watch a game and the neighborhood is nice too. |
