Accoring to my Detroit Historical Calendar, July 11 is the 194th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Canada from Detroit. Is anyone going to celebrate this event? |

You may have forgotten, but Canada ended up capturing Fort Ponchatrain with a handfull of Indians shortly after this time. The war of 1812, wasn't exactly a resounding success. I believe they even lit the White House on fire during that little aggresive soiree. I'm sure good ole W., must have had some ancestors that helped plan that war. Ontario has oil. Look at Petrolia, and the Chatam-Kent area. Think about it, the connections are there. |

hahaha. The US shouldn't celebrate the War of 1812 as anything other than a symbol of irony. Sadly, Americans do not understand irony. ;-) |

On September 10, 1813, Commodore Perry defeats the British fleet at the Battle of Lake Erie. The Battle, which is hard fought by both sides, ends up with a total defeat for the British. Perry sends his famous message to his commander: "WE HAVE MET THE ENEMY AND THEY ARE OURS. Lake Erie becomes an American lake. |

The purpose, war, and outcome is one of the most mis-understood historical events. |

In commemeration of the American's great success in booting out the Brits, I plan to sail from the key outpost of Detroit (via Port Huron) to Fort Michilimackinac this weekend.... should be about 300 boats reveling in the victory! |
