I've been trying to catch the fountain lit so I can get some more night shots of it and it is NEVER lit. Is this something that was lost due to the budget cuts too? Is there a certain time that is on and lit?

When my financial management group buys Belle Isle, we will be plaesed to light the fountain every night for the residents of the new Belle Isle Township.

Com'mon Kwame, sell it to us. Think of what you can do with the $500,000,000.

river rat... are u being a smart ass or is that really an offer on the table...?

Id hate to see the island go private... but thats ALOT of land... and i dont think it would hurt to sell the golf course to someone who is going to make it something corporate slugs spend lots of money at with big tips to the beer cart girls... atleast it would be weeded...

whats wrong with a luxury hotel and time shares on the island??? make it a vacation destination... with a little work.. it could easily be a nice retreat (profitable one at that) in our own backyard.

The race is on! Who will win?

Will Belle Isle once again be in private hands,
or will the Cass Family develop Cass Park into a luxury condo community after thanks-but-no-thanksing the City of Detroit for 146 years of sh*tty custodianship of the park?

Get your two quarters ready. We're going to make bets on squares!

There must be an infomercial on TV advertising something I just can't live without, or a Fraser rerun.

The day something private and for-profitable becomes of Belle Isle Park, Rouge Park, Cass Park, the GAR building, DelRay, will be the day DetroitYes ceases to exist.

It was, and is, a real offer. It was first made to the past mayor and ignored and has been ignored by KK. When first proposed, the offer was accompanied by a $5,000,000 check which was returned.

The offer is for the island, the bridge and approaches from E. Jeff. The offer is contingent upon the release of soveirgnty by Detroit and the State of Michigan acceptance of a new political entity (Belle Isle Township?). The USCG, DYC and the Dossin Museum can stay. Our plan is to develop the island as a private community.

Just think what good the money could do for Detroit. and what Belle Isle could be. BTW, the headline banner on this website would be the view from my living room.

You have access to $500 million and you want to use it to exploit a jewel of the city so that you can have a good view from your living room? If this were to come to fruition (and I hope it or nothing like it ever does) you would be more hated than Ilitch.

As long as we are on the topic of selling Detroit items, I will contact Emanuel Stewart and see what he might be willing to pay for The Fist.

I have yet to see even water running out of the fountain so far this summer. Am I just there at the wrong times? Is it expensive to run water through it?

I've been very disappointed that it has been off this year. Especially after the extensive work that was done to clean it.

I heard that there were issues with the pipes down below. I spoke with a city employee who was walking down into the stairway that leads underneath last week and he said we should not get our hopes up to see it on at any point this year.

At the secret picnic, I saw it on. Except that it was just shooting straight up, like a fire hydrant.

1 whole Comerica Park and 20% of Ford Field

Is there still a fountain on Belle Isle? I thought it was dismantled and re-erected in the Ghettohood of 6 Mile and Woodward. I thought it was providing company for the other more obscure Merrill Fountain from Grand Circus Park that was moved to that same Palmer Park Ghettohood back in !

You know, the Principality of Belle Isle sounds good to me, but we had a real bad war about sucession about 150 years ago and we just want to have a peaceful island home.

Why dont you put your money somewhere else in the city. Build a blighted neighborhood into a megacondo urban neighborhood within Detroit. I know perhaps your arrogance of not getting your own principality named after you might stop you form doing this though...

Motocitymayor2026,

Your suggestion (megacondo urban neighborhood) has already been done. These were called "projects" by the federal governement. We all know how successful these have been. Since 1966, the LBJ 'War on Poverty' has spent 9 Billion Dollars to cure blighted neighborhoods.

Vizion,
The water was finally turned on this past weekend for the boat races-not sure if it will stay on however. I haven't been over after dark since then. You'd have to be there about 9 since you can't get on the island after 10ish. But I'm guessing the lights don't go on since you're not allowed on the island.

I walked up to the fountain yesterday, and there was a horrible stench. Upon further inspection, it looked as if the water came straight from the river without any filtering. It is usually clean and clear water. However yesterday it was murky and smelly.

I'd rather have it off than this.

On another fountain note...the fountain on the East portion of Grand Circus Park has been overflowing now for 2 days. You would think someone would care enough to unclog the drain or shut it down or something.

Also, I've never really noticed before, but is the lower section of fountain down by the resivoir usually on? It was off yesterday and looked as if it had not run in quite some time.
