www.devosforpresident.com So, is Tricky Dick the ambitious little fellow we think he is, or is someone playing with us? If it is little Dick, maybe he should win the Governorship before he starts running for President. Does anyone know how to find out who owns this site? |

Sorry Ron, there's no story there. The DeVos Campaign is smart to buy up domain names. Remember what happend to Kilpatrick. |

Yeah, this is really all kind of ridiculous. And, but more importantly certainly not a Detroit issue. |

I respectfully disagree with both of you MDG, and LMich. If a man wants to be Governor, and yet has higher ambitions that may not keep him here, then it is both a "story" and a "Detroit" issue. Worse yet, if we know of his higher ambitions, we are acutely aware that he will play politics with the legislative process in an effort to make himself look better, much as the GOP has done recently with both Congress and the Michigan Legislature. We need people who want to be Governor to simply be Governor and help the state; not to use it as a springboard for the Presidency. |

Ron, again no story here. This topic was covered a few weeks ago in the newspaper (I can't remember if it was the News or FP). DeVos said he did not want to run for President and that domain names were registered in order to prevent misuse during the campaign. |

Ron, MOST politicians have higher ambitions as most of them are nothing more than super egos. Hell, I'm sure Jenny wants to be president even though she knows she can't. lol But, again, this would be a national issue, not a Detroit-specific issue which is what this forum is for. |

Ron: "We need people who want to be Governor to simply be Governor and help the state; not to use it as a springboard for the Presidency." Ron doesn't appear to want to allow a citizen whom he personally doesn't like to aspire to whatever level of public office he might legally run for. Could it be some kind of presidential envy because of Granholm's legal inability to run for president? But again, that's very Ron of him... |

Again, I must disagree. While I missed that article, MDG, I find the comparison to Kilpatrick less than persuasive. I believe the Kilpatrick website had something to do with the Mayoral race. Not kilpatrickforgovernor, or something along those lines, which would then make your analogy more appropriate. LMich, this is a Detroit issue, in my opinion, as DeVos is actively campaigning in Detroit to be elected Governor this year, not for President in two, six, or ten years. Were he campaigning for President this year, then it would be a national issue. However, that is not the case as it stands today, hence the Detroit issue. Maybe I am weird for wanting a person as Governor who will serve as Governor before starting to run for their next office. We all know that people may put off legislative initiatives that would benefit their constituents NOW in order to have positive press in an election year when they are running for the higher office. That is NOT good policy, that is good politics. There is a world of difference. I am not a fan of the "career politician," although I can appreciate the importance of the "institutional" knowledge that spending time in office can provide. Ok, I'll drop it now, but it most certainly is a relevant issue in this election year, and it is equally relevant as to DeVos' motivation for running for Governor this year. |

Yeh, right. But again, I only hit a few of his overly biased diatribes. However, he's a wannabe legislator in a very Democrat district, acting out his role. |

Ok Ron, if DeVos didn't register the Presidential website, and Democrats got it and made a mock page claiming that DeVos wanted to run for President and wasn't focused on the Governor's office...what would you say? Better to be proactive. Likewise, what about all the talk of Granholm headed to DC if/when a Democrat is elected President? Bottom line, nothing but talk, and not a substantive issue in this, or any, campaign. |

By the way, an extra point Ron. The person who registered that site is the candidate's son (Richard "Rick" Devos III...see above). In a newspaper article, the son spoke of not wanting mock sites to pop up, hence, his idea to buy various domain names. |

While at this point it may seem possible that it was done for defensive purposes, we all know that, in recent years, Governor seats have been more effective springboards for Presidential campaigns that Senatorial seats. Therefore, it would not surprise me if DeVos does have higher aspirations. I highly doubt, if that is so, that he would attempt a run for the presidency in the next two elections, but stay tuned in 2016. I offer a standing gentleman's agreement: If DeVos DOES NOT run on 2016, a round of beers for the whole forum on me. Ron |
