I think the detroitblog guy has given us another key piece of information about who he is. He refers to the homeless within and outside of the vacant buildings as "hobos". Now, that is not a word that any of the younger generation or two would ever use to describe "these" people. The use of this word to describe "these" people is almost an anachronism. For "those" of "you" that see racists behind every vacant building don't get excited I'm not referring to "those" people in this conversation, yet! It would be my best guess that the detroitblog guy was born about 1945 which makes him about 60 or 61 years old. How's that for putting myself right out there? I love a mystery and the detroitblog guy is definitely a mystery! Livedog2 |

I love the guy's work. But sometimes I wonder, when I read it, if he doesn't want people trashing buildings, why he absolutely insists on posting pictures of the stuff most likely to be smashed. Like the latest set of pictures of the David Whitney, where he waxes nostalgic about how beautiful it is, and how unfortunate it is that someone tossed a chair through the skylight. And what does he do? Posts a bunch of pictures of the pristine skylight, as well as everything else that's still in perfect condition in the building. I've talked to people who've been working on projects in buildings he's gotten into to take pictures, and they've expressed concern that his pictures may very well lead to people stealing and smashing stuff that can't afford to be smashed or stolen. I know he probably means well, but every picture of an intact indian in the UA or nice light fixture in the Whitney is asking for some punk to get some ideas. |

The detroitblog guy isn't responsible for what some punk kid does or doesn’t do! I didn't bring this thread up to thrash the detroitblog guy. I did it as a good natured jab at someone whose work both written and photographic I admire a great deal. You may be right, Motorcitymayor2026 but its fun to guess. One of the things I like about the detroitblog guy is that he's not in it for the notoriety because he doesn't tell you who he is and he doesn't provide for feedback. I admire him all the more for his anonymity and lack of interest in what others think of his work. But, as I said, “I think its fun to wonder.” I don’t really want to know who he is because having a mystery is always better anyway. But, I do like to guess and wonder. Livedog2 |

yeah, but if you read his archives, you'll note he has quite a way with words. I'm 36, and I still use the word "hobo," but probably more in connection with my job (railroad). Plus, he's stated he's a hockey player who's broken his collarbone, then gone on exploring with said broken bone. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not faulting our "older" folks, but I can't see most 60-61 year olds I know doing all of that!!! |

In one earlier post the DETROIT BLOG GUY said he could not attend the PISTONS victory parade because his boss's family saw him on TV during the REDWINGS parade and his boss was keeping a very close eye on him all afternoon while the PISTONS were marching down Woodward. He then goes on to state that he used his "PRESS PASS" to gain entery to various locations that had camera crews around and this is how he got on TV....does this mean he works for the newspapers or does he work for a radio or TV station in town..... |

A guy who is probably in his late 20s or early 30s. Probably works for one of the two major dailies. I think he said something to the effect that he was a copy editor in one of those entries. |

In what years would you date my term? I've always called them "Vagrants"; without the capital "V". As far as press passes are concerned, simply apply to the Public Info Office of the DPD and identify yourself as freelance or a stringer. Should sail right through. |

If you read the Metro Times, you know just as much information about the DetroitBlog guy as everybody else does. I love when these threads show up so people can try to flex their muscles and feel important because they think they know something about the guy nobody else does. In the end, it's all just dumb conjecture. |

I used to live downtown, and I've actually seen pictures being taken, which I kinda figured were gonna end up on a website and to my surprise, they ended up on detroitblog...the photographers were actually 2 guys. both about 30 years old, one black, the other a white. |

I knew Danny was the detroitblog guy! But, how does he mask those great writing skills on detroitblog with what he posts here on DetroiYES? Hmmmm, I'll have to think about that one a little more. Now, when it comes to comparing detroitblog with dETROITfUNK there is no comparison because they are two different perceptions on the same topic. They are two of the three greatest websites dealing with the "vanishing Detroit" we know and love. It would be like comparing Arturo Toscanini to Sir Neville Marriner's interpretation of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony. They’re both great but different. Then you've got the third one, DetroitYES: HOME OF THE FABULOUS RUINS OF DETROIT with his clarity of vision, vividness of color and stark reality which makes him a Sir Georg Solti with his own interpretation of the Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony among the other two giants. I thank all three of them for the great work they do and share with us! Livedog2 |

After checking out HFD Firefly, I'm glad they consider me a stalker! I consider it an honor!! They haven't got anything over there that I want. They sound like a bunch of bitching, gossiping, whining fairies with too much free time on their hands. This is what modern life has given us? All this free time to be bored, cause trouble and stir-up the pot? Give me “bedlam”, it would be safer and saner. Livedog2 |
