The old "I didn't realize I couldn't do this" trick. One of the people holding this guy should have said to him,"Sorry, I didn't realize I couldn't punch you in the face." Anyone know what the cost of dumping a truckload of roofing waste or anything else would cost if it was gotten rid of leagally? I'm curious as to how much these people are saving with their illegal dumping. | ||

Certainly wouldn't save them any money to dump it illegally, unless they didn't get caught. A few years ago I was informed that setting trash in front of a vacant house (HUD), that I was working on, would cost me $10k if I didn't get it out of there. No problem I told the officer, but, bulk pickup was still being done, people clearly set construction materials out for bulk pickup in front of thier own properties. Officer said, doesn't matter. The dumpster cost $200 and was more than enough to clear the trash. Certainly cheaper than $10k. | ||

I've seen my neighbors knock down their old garages and put the entire mess on their front lawns for bulk pickup. Most of the time it was removed, no questions asked. | ||

The blight police, that was this officer's one and only assignment (or so she said), that since the house was unoccupied, that made me responsible for the trash. That, even though, the city tax bill was being paid. I decided it wasn't worth the trouble or money to test it in court. Since there's no more bulk pick up though, it's a null point for me. I make other (legal) arrangements for removal when needed. | ||
