I'm looking forward to the start of high school footbal season. I love all levels of football, but for my money...the game is at it's best and purest form under the lights on a Friday night in the crisp mid-October air. I always try to make a few games each year-no one school I stick to...generally just try to find the best game for that week. |

I'll play along, Umstucoach. What's a good topic for starters? Maybe high school sports dynasties and perennial powerhouses (Brother Rice, Catholic Central, Farmington Harrison, Detroit Pershing, Detroit King for example), all time great local athletes?, memorable games? Some of these topics have come up on the forum brfore, but we can do them again. |

Well, since two-a-days start next week, how about some high school football talk. I'll talk about some of the major confereces for now I'll start on the PSL. PSL...pretty much you can count on the same teams to do well year after year...King, Pershing, Crockett, Denby, Renaissance (who will play a Catholic High School from Indianapolis in Indy to start the season this year), and Murray-Wright who have had a nice run. Some of the other teams periodically have good years for instance Cody had a nice one this year and Mackenzine also had a nice one a few years back. My guess...those same good teams will be on the top. It comes down to coaching, those teams seem to have it while others don't. |

Watch for Mackenzie this Year, especially now that the Bus is back in town. They have a great relationship the Bus and Mackenzie, and they have a decent coaching staff. |

It's times like these I'm gonna miss seeing ol' Martin DePorres HS floating around. Those guys were always ranked and usually won their division too. I wonder where most of those players took off to. |

Smogboy-- Many of the former DePorres kids went to OLSM and many of them are being recruited by top D1 schools. Others (mainly underclassmen and linemen) followed coach Greg Carter to Inkster, taking advantage of their open enrollment. Inkster last year had their best season ever, using mostly existing players. |

OLSM is a D3 school by size but going D1 in all of their sports. They're looking to challenge CC and Brother Rice for overall athletic superiority. Their new ice arena is a top facility that has helped their hockey team achieve Top 5 ranking in a short amount of time. |

I don't think the psl can be considered a major conference as far as teams are concerned. The psl is a major conference(maybe the best conference in the state) when it comes to producing players going to the next level. At last count the league had about 13 guys playing in the NFL. What a shame considering the league has never, ever won a state championship in football. |

During week 1 the PSL showed again how far it needs to go in order to be a force statewide. Denby, Crockett,Renaissance and King all lost (none of them close)non-conference games. These teams will most likely make the PSL playoffs and compete for the PSL championship. These teams did show heart by scheduling these games now I hope the players and coaches can learn from this |

Did anyone notice the local kid playing for the Buffalo Bills yesterday? John DiGiorgio of Utica Eisenhower played LB. He also went to SVSU. Although the analyst never said anything I remembered his name from the State Championship game team he played on (2000). FSN replayed it several times... http://www.buffalobills.com/te am/player.jsp?player_id=122683 |

I was at the East Detroit/GPS game a couple weeks ago - I was surprised at the number of fans that ED had out for their game, the number of people in their Marching band and Dance Troupe was impressive! |
