They have talked about it on 1270 this morning. I'm not opposed to bringing in an experienced goalie, but this is a bit too much. I'd rather resign Manny and keep Hasek away from Detroit. |

The Detroit Red Wings addressed their unsettled goaltending situation by signing veteran Dominik Hasek to a one-year contract on Monday. Hasek, who helped the Wings to their last Stanley Cup in 2002, joins another Detroit Cup-winner, Chris Osgood, in net. No, he'll wait until AFTER he signs the contract. Back spasms while leaving the podium announcing he's joined the team. Anybody want to lay some money down? |

Supersport it has been awhile since Hasek has won a cup with the Wings. The reason people aren't excited is because not everyone has a girl’s knowledge of sports. |

Sport, he's a joke because he gets lucrative deals only to fall victim to "injuries" when he is needed most. I think Merchantgander may be on to something...Just to let you know, the Red Wings are a hockey team Sport. |

It's not a trade, it's a cash deal, so it has nothing do do with any "trading system." Second, who else is out there? Giguere at $4 million? The Wings don't have the cash. Biron? He's about the same as Osgood. Toskala? And Belfour would have been a drunken disaster. It's slim pickings right now. Before he pulled his groin last year, Hasek was the best goalie in the NHL. He went from $8 million per year the last time we had him to the bare minimum now. If he totally craps out it's still a steal compared with the other options, many of which we would've had to give up rostered players for. |

I 2nd that thought Hockey_player. In case all you negative Wings "fans" hadn't noticed now we have 2 goalies who won each a Stanly Cup with us. Besides in another year one of our young goalies in Grand Rapids should be ready to step up to the challange. Now hopefully Holland will sign Anson Carter to help offset Shanny's departure. He woukld be a big presence up front as his play is simmiler to Brendan's. |

...yea, it's a joke alright. Hasek was the reason we won in 02...but some would rather we sign a goalie who melts down mentally (manny) in the most critical moments. Glad those people aint making the decisions. |

It's a cash deal for darn near the league minimum. Sure it's loaded with incentives but I don't see it as a losing situation for the team. if he does end up pulling a groin, having back spasms or breaking a nail and can't play- we can cut him and still have money to go get a goalie. Smart economic sense in my opinion. I'm just not sure if philosphically the Wings still shouldn't have gone with putting a youngster between their pipes once. |

I agree Detroitej72, adding Carter would be a huge step forward in filling the void left by the departure of Shanny. Not to mention, seeing a fellow Spartan back in Michigan would be awesome. Carter has the 2nd highest point total of any college player at JLA. |

Yes Detroitstar, forgot to mention Carter's local ties with the Spartans. As far as Hasek, Art Regner just gave his seal of approval and we know he is unbiased when it comes to the Wings! |

Jesus man, if Hasek has a good season all you people will be right back on the bandwagon, in typical fashion. The Red Wings are the best team in hockey year in and year out, because of the moves and aquisitions they make. Yet here people are, already saying it was a bad move. We'll see how many change their tune if he has a red hot year. |

I'm in agreement there Super. I think the Hasek deal could be good and realistically the Wings have nothing to lose. If he succeeds (and we're hopeful), we're happy. If he ends up getting hurt or crumbling, then we still have cash to go out and get another goalie or letting Howard or Ozzie step right in. |

Sport, do you know how many season's he has played since he won the Stanley Cup in 2002? None. He has missed 2 full seasons since then (one to retirement, one to the lockout), half of another (last year due to groin injury), and most of a third season (playing 14 games due to injuries when he tried a comeback in 2004). So basically he has played about 50 games over the last four years. Not to mention his screwing over both the Wings and Curtis Joseph by suddenly deciding he wanted to play again. That is why people are down on the move. If he can stay healthy, I don't think it is a bad move...there is a ton of upside. But there are major questions about whether or not he can stay healthy. I personally don't hate the move, but I'm not thrilled with it either. I thought (and still do) that the Wings should take their lumps for this season, start Osgood with Jimmy Howard getting seasoning as the backup...and then provided he doesn't fall apart, have Howard be the starter next year. This is clearly a team in transition, and I think it's time to speed up handing the reins over to the youngsters. This move just puts it off one more year. BTW: This is my post# 666....do you really want to disagree with me?....muwahahahaha!!!! |

Mich has been mailing them in for a long time, but this thing was positively stupid. Imagine a newly hired writer trying to pass this off as good work. It wouldn't make it past the first editor, who'd be up to his neck in hackneyed, cloying cliches and feeble attempts at humor. It's nearly unreadable. |

To me, it was unreadable. It seemed to spiral all over the place without actually having much of a point. If he had an strong opinion on Hasek being back, Mitch sure muddied up the waters with this dialogue/ diatribe. |

Hasek? Belfour? In a faster, more offensively minded NHL, do we really want our goalie cruising the ice on his hoverbout? I say give Ozzie a chance, Illitch expressed total confidence in him less than a week ago, then oooops....let's bring in a highly priced, injury ridden 60 year old goalie. I think Holland is getting tips from Millen. |

Highly priced? $750,000 is near minimum wage in the NHL for a goalie. He's even cheaper than Osgood. "Cruising the ice in his hoverbout (sic)?" The speed of the NHL is irrelevant if you're a goalie - considering their job is to basically stay in one place. |

Hmmm...that "has been" was just selected as one of the players of the week and leads the NHL in GAA. I don't know how much longer he can continue doing this but if Dom can keep it up, I'd say it's the steal of the century. |
